Malik Scott
On December 14th, the Tachi Palace Hotel & Casino in Lemoore, California will be the site of the last Goossen Tutor Promotions show of the year, a marathon that has a scheduled 80 rounds of boxing in twelve bouts. In the headliner, undefeated Philadelphia heavyweight Malik Scott (25-0, 10 KOs) will take on veteran Andrew Greeley (14-14-2, 7 KOs). In other heavyweight action, Manuel Quezada (16-4, 12 KOs) faces David Johnson in an eight-rounder for the WBE super heavyweight title. The rest of the card will showcase local-area and regular Tachi crowd-pleasers. "2006 has been a tremendous year for Goossen Tutor Promotions" said promoter Dan Goossen acknowledged. "We have received tremendous support for our shows at Tachi Palace Hotel & Casino since we kicked off the series three years ago and thought we would reward our loyal fans by providing an extended, action-packed show -- featuring many of their favorite local boxers and Tachi regulars -- to end the year."
** Scott needs to step up. Fighting these guys I could beat doesn't prove anything. At least fight Peter Okhello. MJ

Malik Scott has never been really impressive in any of his fights. His level of oppostion is quite weak at best. I think Okhello would wipe the floor with him.
Manuel Quezada is not a world class fighter but he is a very entertaining Mexican HW. He was on ESPN2 during the summer and beat a tomato can from out west in a six rounder. His no defense/all offense style makes him a crowd favorite in Northern California. I believe Jessica Rachozy (sp) is on this card, also. |

The times I have seen him fight, Malik was very unimpressive. He just doesn't have any punching power and hasn't really beaten anyone of substance. Also, his weight might become an issue at some point. He came in at 255 for his last fight in July, which seems to be a bit heavy for him. I think that there is probably a reason that his management is protecting him. He has built his 25-0 record on mediocre competition, at best, and fighting some character named Andrew Greely at this stage in his career isn't going to land Scott any title shots in the near future.

Yeah, Big Matt, sadly the same can be said for most of the so-called heavyweight prosepcts out there. Most of them make Joe Louis's "Bum of the Month" club look like world-beaters. At least those guys fought regularly and took on the best around. A few losses meant nothing much in those days. They were considered lessons learned. Now, the managers of these 30-something rookies are terrified of a single loss.

You are absolutely right about the single loss thing. Many seem to be of the mindset that if their fighter isn't undefeated that he won't get a title shot, and is tainted somehow. There has only been one world heavyweight champion in history to retire undefeated, and of the current crop, only one falls into that category. Many modern handlers need to realize that a loss, (or several), can indeed by a learning experience, and better prepare their fighter for future success, IF he doesn't get discouraged, learns from his mistakes, and corrects them in subsequent bouts.

Just like Joel Julio was the next great WW. One loss and everyone has forgotten about him.

All those fights and only 10 KOs doesnt say much if the guy has been fighting less than bums.

I would place Maliks' HP at no higher than a "4." In all honesty, it might even be a "3." Pretty pathetic for a guy who stands 6'4" and weighs 249 lbs. Looks like 13-14-2 Andrew Greely took him the distance last night. Sad.
