Which is better: Well rested or 7-gamer?

So this years World Series will have one team in it that swept their way in while the other team had to battle its way in through a full 7 games. Which team will be more prepared? Is it the team that has had the chance to rest and recovery, while potentially cooling down, maybe even getting out of a groove? Or is it the team that, though probably tired, is running at full steam and in a groove?

Disregarding who the teams are this year (because Detroit will win no matter what ) let me know what you think in general.

This will be a poll. [EDIT] Awww crap! No it's not a poll.

I'd take the rest any day of the week, twice on Sundays.

At this time of the year, I think rest is huge.

You can't put too fine a point on having your rotation exactly as you want it and making sure most of your players are healthy and ready to go. That being said, while rest is good for the teams, a 7 game series is great stuff for us fans.

I'd take rest as well.

Although as an aside the only time it has ever happened before, in 1988, the team who played the seven game series, Los Angeles, beat the team who swept in the LCS, Oakland, 4-1.

I'm glad that at least we got one playoff series that has gone the full distance. Now I really hope this year's World Series goes the whole way. The last 2, while exciting to see the Soxes finally get their victories, were also a bit lacking because of the sweeps.

You have to bear in mind though, the Dodgers are a bunch of dirty cheaters and that should have never happened.

Someone must have done a study of just this. It would be easy enough to do: what is the record in the world series of teams who have played, say, fewer than five games against teams that have played more than five. It would be a small sample size, but revealing nonetheless.

Well I was only three at the time. That's my excuse for not knowing.

I must be the only one in the "NL will have the edge" camp. These guys have been playing nearly every day for over six months. Their longest break has been 3 days. So the NL team is going to have their one day off, and then it's business as usual, just like it's been for over half a calendar year. The Tigers, on the other hand, will have been sitting on their hands for a week, then will have to go play the most important games of their lives after having their routine broken completely.

Yeah, the rest to heal up wounds is good. But the rust and loss of competitive fire from seven days off can only hurt.

Where would we put the teams that played 5 games?

If you are a major league player you should already have competitive fire . Rust can probably effect a team where there is a one game and out situation. I don't think rust matters in a 7 game series. You need the rest.

We wouldn't include them. The idea is to isolate teams who played "quick" series versus teams who played "long" ones. I should have said fewer than "six" and more than "five." Or, even easier, teams who played 4 or 5 games versus teams who played six or seven.

The "sweeps" are 1-2 against "six or seven game winners", or if you have "four or five game winners" they are 6-3 against "six or seven game winners".

Id prefer about 3 days maybe 4 days rest, but the Tigers'll still probably have the advantage over the winner.
