Teaching new positions

I already have too many OF's and I want to switch one of mine to either 2B, or SS. How would I do this without using the player editor? Or do I just stick him in there and he eventually gets points added to his rating? I tried searching for this, but came up with nothing so any help would be great.

I'm really happy you asked this because I was about to pose the same question. From what I remember from OOTP5, the last version I have played, I think it really worked best during ST. It was possible that you could set someone to play a position during the regular season, but it was highly unlikely they would take to it.

I believe that players who are playing in the minors are able to learn new positions faster than those at the major league level. Perhaps a reassignment to the minors for these players is the way to go.

I can't find an option even when they're in the minors to tell to change positions, so I can't specify where I want them to go.

You just have to play them at the position you want, i believe.
So just set them in your depth charts/lineups. But, I do believe that they have to have the general IF/OF fielding ratings for the type of position you want them to learn. So, for example, if they don't have any IF fielding ratings, I don't believe they can learn an IF position. But, I could be wrong.

You can put any fielder at any position and he'll learn it to the ability of at least 1, from what I've seen.
Everyone has infield ratings, even if they're an outfielder. You'll probably just see that most of their infield abilities are 1.. making them a prime candidate to NOT be taught an infield position.

There's a post somewhere else that lists what the basic minimums are for learning a position, I think... not from someone invovled with the game, just someone tinkering with it I think.

I've seen some outfielders with infield abilities that might make tham fairly good first basemen... but I've yet to come across an outfielder that had infield abilities that would make them even semi-useful in other infield roles... just what I've seen.
You can change their position, change the game from displaying them as a RF to displaying him as a 2B (think the button is fairly obvious in the player profile)... but that doesn't mean he'll be any good there. I just do that in cases where I have 3 CFs (or something) but no RF (or something else) to keep the game from constantly offering me pathetic deals to get me a RF (or whatever).

My OF is covered fine... stop offering me your Rookie ball RF for my superstar 3B!!!!
