Barry Bonds in 2007 ... Where will he go?

Bonds needs 22 home runs to pass Hank Aaron. Imagine had he not been so injury plagued last year and had such a rough start this year. He would either have the record or be within a few home runs. He had 26 HRs this year, which still isn't too bad and something that almost any team would take. Overall his numbers were mostly respectable this year and certainly numbers that could prove useful for a number of teams.

So, the question remains, where does Bonds go? Does he stick with the Giants? Head over to the American League (possibly to Oakland)? Or does he hang 'em up and end his career with 734 HRs and otherwise decent HOF numbers (only 159 hits from 3,000; 70 RBIs from 2,000; 500+ SBs; 2,152 runs; .299 AVG; and a boatload of walks)? He probably is anohter 1 1/2-2 seasons from hitting 3,000 and could knock in his 2,000th RBI next year.

I don't see him sticking with the Giants. I do see him sticking around California though, playing in the AL. Basically, that puts him in Oakland, Anaheim, and possibly Seattle. Beyond that, I don't see where else he could go. The Yankees? I don't know what other AL team he could go to.

Of course, one sure fire way to get him his 22 is to send him to Colorado, but that means he would have to play in the OF.

His agent already says he will play in 2007 ... somewhere. He would like to play in SFO. Giants have already been questioned about him by an unidentified (not the A's) AL team.

I would say Cleveland, but we don't need a DH.

Gibson swings, and a fly ball to deep right field! This is gonna be a home run! Unbelievable! A home run for Gibson! And the Dodgers have won the game, 5 to 4; I don't believe what I just saw! I don't believe what I just saw!

Im a indians fan, and thats the last thing we need is that jerk, that will never happen imo. Sf owner has already said they will be going in a different direction,im sure they are very tired of the controversy that surrounds him, most teams wont go there for that very reason.Id say his best hope is the A's.

I wonder what would happen in this situation if Finley hadn't introduced the DH in the first place. Another reason to loathe it.

Oh, come on. There is a little bit of good that comes from the DH (although I prefer no DH, myself). Without it Frank Thomas wouldn't have had the great comeback year he had this year.

Actually charlie o invented the dr,not the dh.4-06-1973 - Ron Blomberg of the New York Yankees is 1st official Designated Hitter in ML history.

Agreed!!! My guess is that he goes to Oakland on a one-year deal, for substantially less than his previous salary ... I'll say $6 million or so for a year. It keeps him in the Bay Area and allows him to break the record in front of his local fans.

Of course, what happens to Frank Thomas?

At this point, I do say it's either Oakland or stay in San Francisco. Here is how I would rank it:

1 - Oakland
2 - San Francisco
3 - Anaheim
4 - Seattle
5 - Yankees
6 - Other AL Team
7 - Other NL Team

I cannot see him going anywhere besides SF. I don't think his baggage will be worth it to other teams.

From Wikipedia:
Quote:
The designated hitter, like other experimental baseball rule changes, was in part the brainchild of A's owner Charlie Finley. It was used first in spring training games in 1969, and was later adopted by the American League beginning in 1973.

On April 6, 1973, first baseman Ron Blomberg of the New York Yankees became the first designated hitter in Major League Baseball history, facing Boston Red Sox right-handed pitcher Luis Tiant in his first plate appearance. "Boomer" Blomberg was walked.

My comment was tongue-in-cheek Bob.

I'd bet heavily that he'll be back with the Giants. In the unlikely event he isn't I'd guess he goes to the Angels.

If he plays in Oakland I officially am not an A's fan in 2007.

Yes, because completely incompetent goofs taking up at bats is good for the sport. This DH argument will never die, and those who hate the DH will never make any sense.
