The 2005 Phillies (Fictional)
EDIT-
GOOD GOD. I swear. I just realized the 20 years of history I simmed, had pitcher endurance "Very High", and all my pitchers were throwing 350+ innings. ![]() I'll have to see what I'm going to do about this. Likely a re-sim of 'history', and a new team and all. I'll "update" the new post when ready.

The catchers!
The last GM of the Phillies made a pretty smart move in acquiring Matt Walters from the Padres. Walters had since he started playing full time back in '97, been mired in a backup role or at best in a platoon role. He's pretty consistently put up a .280/.340/.440 season, with the ability to eek out 8 or 10 home runs in his limited playing time. When the Phillies grabbed the California native they planned on putting his talents to use over a full season. But in mid-July he ruptured his Achilles tendon, knocking him out for the rest of the year. He finished with:
.280/.348/.417 with 8 home runs. I'd take that from my catcher, but Walters is going to be 33 next season, and is eligible for free agency this winter. He wants a 3 year contract. And he'll get one, but not from me. On October 8th, (it's the 31st) the Phils GM claimed 35 year old Ed Schulz off of waivers from the Reds. Schulz had from 1997 to 2003 been the Reds starting catcher, struggling to hit .230, hitting 15 or so home runs and walking nearly 70 times a year. His calling card has always been his excellent defense and arm, and anything he provided offensively was a bonus. The Phil's GM has a parting gift to me signed him to a 1 year contract extension worth 460,000. He'll likely back up whoever the starting catcher is this year. Long time Phils catcher Michael Smith was inexplicably down in AAA, where he played one game (2-4, 2 runs). Smith put up .280/.350/.400 seasons like clockwork, and compounded with solid defense was a good player. But he's a free agent, and I won't offer to bring him back. Below that we have Robbie Trilling, who was born to be a backup catcher with a rocket arm and noodle bat. He'll play down in AAA and wait on an emergency on the big league club. 22 year old Ryan Lewis had on OPS of .772 last year in AAA. He has a decent eye, and a little pop. But he has a lot of trouble putting the bat on the ball. He looks to be nothing more than poor man's Ed Schulz, and Schulz himself is a poor man's version of a poor man's poor man. A lot of the rest of the catchers are nothing more than organizational flotsam. Al Briggs, who spent last year in Williamsport OPS'ing .644, is a switch hitter with just a tad of potential in his bat. But is doubtful to ever make the bigs. There will be some
