GM Question (my contract)

I remember seeing a post about this but could not find it via the search.

When I start as unemployed, and later add myself to a team via commish mode, how do I get it so I actually have a contract with $ and year? Is the only way to do this to wait for a 'real' offer to come through?

How long would I have to manage before a MLB team comes calling? Am I better off not taking a job and waiting or should I start building my resume in the minors etc?

FWIW, I saw that the Dodgers fired their GM about 1.5 months into the season. However, I could not apply for this position in any way shape or form. I guess I just need some info on how this all works.

Thanks.

You never get a dollar amount. You are basically there on a year by year basis and can be fired at basically a whim

Ok, how long until I am offered a job? Is it in my best interest to start managing in the minors?

After the initial league startup day, the only time you can really find an opening is the first day after the playoffs. That's when coaching contracts expire, thus openings are created.

If you're not playing in commissioner mode, then your only option will likely be to start in the minors and work up.

Or continuously reinstate yourself in commish mode. The problem with starting in the minor leagues is, as in real life, the GM of a team does not care about where you rank or who is on your team. You're there to progress players. however no one told the owners for the minors and they still give you expectations. Now this sucks cause the fact is you could be managing a bunch of guys who can't even hit .250. so if your team is a bunch of under acheivers you may get fired simply because those you manage suck.

This depends on how much fun you can get out of being a minors manager. OOTPB has one set of circumstances that control your actions in the majors, and quite another for the minors. The AI is more or less in control of your career as a minors manager. However, you could try setting things up the way you like and then quick-simming until the end of playoffs to see what jobs might come up. Probably, you should be getting some kind of interest within 2-4 seasons. If you're not hired into something better after 6 seasons, it's time to either jettison your league or go into Commissioner mode. Whee.
