Big Dog OOTP 06 Roster Thread

Ok first off, let me introduce myself since I haven't been around this community as long as some of the other roster makers. I originally made my first rosters for Tony LaRussa Baseball and Sierra's Pro football games. I eventually graduated to High Heat and Mvp Baseball along with Madden football. then on to Sim games like EWR, TEW, and TPB. then finally I got into OOTP creatiing last year in a sim league I was in. creating some missing players, extra free agents and a draft class. Now you say what made me decide to do a full blown roster set for '06? well following the progress or lack there of concerning a certain roster set, I have become annoyed with their flip attitudes and lack of progress along the way. So there's where I will be different. You will know every step of the way where I am at and what I have done.

Step 1 was to import from Lahman and reassign those players to their correct teams as of opening day.

That's now 100% done

Step 2 was to place card double A and triple A players. This was done by renaming all the fake's to their real life counterparts, then changing height/weight/dob/pob.

this is 100% done as well

Step 3 is to go through each of those teams and change their R\L\SW hit info, their numbers, and positions.

this is done for 5 Triple A teams already

Step 4 is to correctly rerate those players, using their career minor league numbers, pecota, ba.com's rankings and bios. along with the recommendations of a group of proffesional scouts and front office people that I have become connected with.

again this is done for 5 triple a teams already.

Steps 3 & 4 are being done together.

Teams done as of now
Memphis Cardinals
Iowa Cubs
Charlotte Knights
Buffalo Bisons
Columbus Clippers

This project will be done in conjunction with the photo pack in my signature

I welcome your input and feedback, good or bad. this is my project, because i am doing the work. but in reality it's for the community as much as anything. So I look forward to the comments

Is this just going to be the major leagues and then AAA? No AA, A, SSA, etc.?

Also, are you leaving ratings the same from Lahman or are you editing the ratings?

Beta 1 will be Majors down through AA

Beta 2 will be Majors down through Low A

Final MLB only release will be Majors through Rookie and camp leagues

then I will work on US and Canadian Indy leagues, followed by Japanese, Cuban, and Italian Leagues.

and Possibly korean, and Taiwan leagues if I can find info on them or somone with knowledge of those leagues

Edit, just saw the question about MLB ratings. Those will be done by using the career numbers, along with the Lahman ratings as well as pecota, and a few other resources.

Up above it looks as though he is putting in AA as well, but there is no comment about anything under that. Edit: looks like he has updated

Ozzie I guess one question I have for this is, did you import each player from Lahman that had previous major league experience but did not play in the majors last year? Guys like BJ Upton and Fernando Tatis as well as probably 50-100 others so that their major league stats would show up in the game for their careers?

I think I have imported in everyone that has major league stats, I will make a final run through there before the first beta. but I wanted to jump right into player creation while I am still on bed rest. best to attempt to get the crappiest work done before I am able to really start pushing my rehab

Yeah it is a pain to be importing each player especially the pitchers since they come in as DH's every time so you have to update the pitches and actually make them pitchers. I found that there were a couple of players that I was shocked to find out had major league experience. Just players that I didn't expect.

Being on bed rest must make doing this a lot easier. Unfortunately with 3 children ages 7 and under I don't get as much time. Also right now the file is in Cubby's hands so I am not able to do anything with it.

If I had 10 hours a day to work on it, I am sure I would be done with it, but that just isn't always the case.

Yea being injured is a leg up, but I haven't had a 2 1/2-3 month head start and someone else working with me. so I suppose it all evens out in the end

2 1/2 month start is nice but with all the changes in the game during that period of time up until it released it lead to some problems that had to be fixed by Markus that I couldn't do.

But in all honesty it is harder to work with two I think than 1 as you have two ideas, and if one person has the file the other can't do any work as it can't be merged together, well at least not to my knowledge, but then again I haven't realy looked into that part.

it's the one thing I disagree with the other roster making team on. I will keep the community updated on my progress.

as such, work will begin on AAA team #6 tomorrow. I am doing some google searches today trying to find some of the missing pics that are needed for that mod I have almost finished

Also I was able to pave the way to clean up many of the roster creating issues and make it much easier for others to be able to do so, as I was able to get Markus to add in more things to make my life easier during the beta process. Unfortunately a lot of those things did not occur until I had become extremely frustrated with things and started trying to create ways that he could make my life easier :P

Well there were things that I almost begged for that would have made life extremely easy but Markus said it wouldn't work unfortunately. But hey what are you going to do, I unfortunately really don't understand programming and the limitations of it so I have to defer to those that do.

I would have preffered a seperate editor. ever play the wrestling Sim tew? the game editor done by Adam Ryland is an absolute joy to work with

no I was just saying that makes it easier than trying to chase after 3 kids while trying to get it done. Most of my time comes late at night while my kids are sleeping.
