Question here. Considering buying the game
I have been a longtime fan of Title Bout Championship boxing, have owned both computer versions. I am considering getting back in the baseball simulation mode. I became very disenchanted with baseball back in 94 during the strike and with all the juiced baseballs and juiced players,I felt the game had deteriorated into nothing more than a glorified home run derby. However, recently my old love for the game has resurfaced(used to be a fanatic)and I have considered buying a sim. I used to be an APBA baseball fanatic. Still have my old game boards stashed somewhere. My question,I know that OOTP is a very dedicated company that caters to the customer,I have never played the baseball game. I am not into the role playing stuff, just a statistical replay buff. I like to manage the games and replay a season. A few questions,is the game fun to play even after playing several seasons? Is it statistically accurate? I will probably go ahead and buy it anyway, hell its not like I am buying a house or anything..lol. I am just curious as to what to expect. Any replies will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You can play Demo's of 2006 and v6 and you can download v5 for free.

Yes it's fun to play. Some of us have been playing each version of the game since ootp1. I started with ootp2, and am still enjoying it. The latest version is fun in it's own way but needs a few patches to stableize it more. You might try the demo to get a feel for what it's like. The stats are quite accurate, but it's not really a replay engine so don't expect your oldtimers to put up the same stats they did in real life. They'll be good, but not exact duplicates of their real life counterparts. In fact, they could be hit with a career ending enjury, as well. That's what ootp gamers love about the game... the uncertainty and the alternate outcomes.
One thing is for sure, you'll be able to build your own baseball univerese with as much integrity as you want it to have. No steroids, drugs, enhancements, bad attitudes, outragious salaries; unless you want it. That's what I love about sports sims. Last edited by DreamTeams; 06-29-2006 at 06:30 PM. |

It's also far and away the most realistic baseball game ever made. Yes, I'm including Diamond Mind and Strat and even APBA in this because in a career sim you really don't know whether your 3-time MVP who's hitting .240 this year is just slumping or if your scout is wrong and he's fallen off a cliff. Only a sadist would play 1984's Gorman Thomas for 150 at-bats - you can just look at his card and see that he's not going to get a hit for you. But what if you thought that Stormin' Gorman still had another 30-HR season in him? If you're as bad as the Mariners, maybe you do give him 150 ABs before calling it a season.
It's really a wonderful, wonderful game. If you haven't played OOTP before, I think you may enjoy it even more because you won't be relearning things you'll feel like you had "down" before, which can be really frustrating even if the changes are for the better. |

I wouldn't even bother with OOTP5. The interface is different, very different and you shouldn't waste your time on a legacy system. Instead spend your time on the demo of the new version. I'd wait until 7/7 when the new patch is out with the demo as that'll give you a much better build. To me though this is the greatest version at this point.

I agree - Try the demo and then wait until the 7/7 patch to buy if you like the demo.

What I tell everyone who makes a thread like this is that this is one of the most customizable games you will ever find. Pretty much everything can be edited. In response to your question, even if the game isn't producing the stats you want (although with the default setting it should look pretty good), you can tune it to your liking. The best part about the game is that it won't get old because the customization gives you unlimited possibilities and ways to play.
Also, in your case I think that OOTP2006 would be perfect for your situation. Most of the people who haven't been big on the game are people that have been playing the OOTP series for a while, and knowing where to click / what to do in pretty much any situation is second nature (I'm one of them). I think it's a lot harder to re-learn the interface after playing the old versions than it is to learn the interface for the first time. |
