Historical League problem--need help
I keep trying to do historical leagues starting around 1976 when Dale Murphy first started. I have run about 10 different leagues and he always ends up being traded a ton in his first few years and never amounts to much. His power numbers are always low and get lower. Meanwhile, Bob Horner and Dave Kingman have power numbers near 100 and hit over 60 homeruns. Am I doing something wrong? I'm using Lahman 5.1 database. I don't see where I can edit hitting ratings. Any help would be appreciated. I've always felt that Dale was underrated, but this is ridiculous.

I'm a relative newb, so there are probably better folks to answer this, but unfortunately for us 6 & 6.5ers, all the experts are preoccupied with the new toy, OOTP2006, and there's not much activity on the 6/6.5 forums. So I'll give it a shot & suggest that you try using either Ankit's or Arod/Garlon's database instead of Lahman. Look around in the mod forums for links... Hope that helps.

I'll vouch for the Arod/Garlon database...I'm doing a replay...started in 1901 and just finished 1925, and its been great.
Babe Ruth has developed into the huge power hitter he actually was (not 60 in a season yet, but he has cracked over 50) and overall the numbers are very realistic. I very rarely tweak the numbers from this set...only a handful in 25 seasons. I'm looking forward to finishing out the century....in fact, I'll probably open the board to questions when I progress further...

I am an historical only player. If a players rookie year was bad, or if they fall below the import modifiers you set when you import a season they may never develop using Lahman. Ankit 5.2 or the Arod/garlon database is they way to go. In the Ankit DB players enter the league at a much more developed level than Lahman. In the Arod/Garlon, they enter the first year that they got significant playing time. Using Murph as an example, with the Lahman he will come in in 75 or 76 (can't remember which) with low ratings. In the Arod, he will enter in 78 (possibly 79) but ready to play in the majors immediately, but still with some room to improve. Ankit takes career averages, so players who were actually good in real life have a better chance to be good in the game. The player will come in at maybe 10-15% below his career averages so he does have room for improvement. One caveat, Lahman has every player who ever played period. The other 2 remove players who only got a cup of tea inthe majors and never amounted to anything.

Why don't you just go into the team roster, choose the player you want to edit, select Edit in the upper right (change from OFF to ON), go to his ratings then go crazy and boost up all the numbers you want.

rwd, thanks for that info. I did a bunch of testing last night with the Garlon database, and Murph's stats were much more normal. The only problems I was seeing was guys like Ellis Valentine, Ken Phelps, Bob Horner, Greg Luzinski were having stats that were waaaaaaay to high. Luzinski had almost 600 homers at age 35 and Phelps, in his first two years in the league, had 64 and 69 homeruns. I can't seem to find a way to edit the batting ratings when I click on the player edit button. Phelps had 100 for patience/eye in his first year. Horner had 100 for power in his first year. Murphy started more normal in 1977 at contact of 23, power of 54, and eye of 41. To the other guy, I don't want to edit Murphy into Hank Aaron. I just want to get normal ratings more in touch with real life than him getting traded 4 times in his first 3 years and ending up as a 1 star outfielder every time.

I always use the Era Calculator to globally tweak the settings to get more realistic results.

Just goofing around, I found the place to change hitting ratings. Now I can adjust some of these out-of-whack ratings.
