...than "adding/removing" divisons or teams? When adding divisions and teams it seems like the only real change than needs to be made is updating the schedule. Couldn't that just be the case with adding subleagues too?
I'm just curious because I'm wondering why this isn't a part of the game (and I know nothing about programming).

You know, in all my tinkering I hadn't noticed that you can't add/remove sub-leagues.
I am, to say the least, dismayed. I had planned to do a 19th century re-creation by using a bunch of independent leagues that I would promote/demote as the historical situation called for. Towards the end of this, I would have the Western League rise in prominence, change its name to the American League in 1899, and in 1901 merge it into the existing National League by creating a new sub-league in the NL and transferring the American League teams into it. Then I would rename the league and demote it to a minor league. Of course, I can still do this by creating the NL initially with 2 sub leagues. It just won't be as clean. |

If it was easy to program, Markus would have done it.
Presumably adding/deleting leagues or sub-leagues means a lot of messing around with the database structure. Teams can be contained inside a league, but there is no similar container for the league itself to sit inside, which is what I would guess is part of the problem making things difficult. |

Will the game allow you to create a subleague and leave it empty until you need to transfer your teams into it? Or will an subleague with 0 teams cause problems?

I understand that about the league... but the sub-league should be contained inside the league, just as the divisions are contained inside the leagues or sub-leagues. I have been a database programmer myself, so I have appreciation of the fact that nothing is as trivial a matter as it seems when manipulating a database structure. Nevertheless, I hope that the database was structured with the sub-league residing as a level of hierarchy between league and division, making the addition/removal of sub-leagues at least feasible for future updates. |
