Historical Leagues and 'Left outs'

I have seen references from several posters that the new OOTP is not as good as 6.5 for us 'Historical' leaguers and that there are also features from 6.5 that were not included in the new OOTP.

As a strictly historical league gamer should I buy OOTPBB2006 and what features will I find missing.

Also I have perused the new manual and it appears that financials still cannot be used without free agency is that assumption correct??

No.

In game setup, there is an option called 'Minimum Service Years for Free Agency'. The top option is 'No Free Agency'.

As a strictly historical gamer who has just started messing around with things and is still very new to the interface and features, Im finding everything a bit to deep for pure historical sims. I would imagine this version is FANTASTIC for deep fictional leagues and real current leagues, but who needs all of the bells and whistles of Japanese Leagues, Mexican Leagues, players from Antartica, Russia, short season rookie leagues, rule 5 drafts, etc etc, for a historical league ?

That said, this version is a wonderland for creative people who like to do all kinds of crazy stuff with leagues, mixing and matching real and fictional players and leagues.

That said once again, I sure as heck am going to try and figure this thing out. Im following Tiger Fan's historical stuff, and trying to keep notes on all of the important historical threads, while I plug away on the interface. I simmed a few seasons last night (1998-2000) and a got small handle on the screens that I frequented often and making them bookmarks.

That said once again again, there is still a lot of tweaking that needs to be done to get historical leagues to sim out correctly (switching strategies and whatnot like reliever usage and stolen base frequencies). The inclusion of the ERA Calculator and automatic importing of the rookies doesnt really make it THAT much easier, but heck, since Im still using OOTP4 and Wallman and Cato Utilities for my historical sims at the moment (have OOTP5 but never brought my league into it, and never purchased OOTP6), Im giving this as much time as I have to. Im sure a couple of patches will clean some things up.

Oh, you can have financials on and Fa off which was one of my biggest complaints about the other version. It has financial coefficients too, which makes that part WAY better than the other versions.

There's an issue with minor leagues in the new version for historical leaguers. You either have to put up with fake players being there and dumbing them down so you can have full rosters for them or you have to use a 'reserve roster' setup where all your minor leaguers are bunched together.

Having bought the game, I'm enjoying it quite a bit right now. It plays excellently on my system and I like the new features quite a bit, especially the history section. The minor league thing is preventing me from actually playing as a manager and running a particular team, however, as I've been in commish mode for the time being until I either 'compromise' as some people have put it or I figure out something else that works for me with the minors.

But the game is great, regardless. I'd definitely check out the demo when it comes out, if I were you

Does anyone have a list of 'leftouts' from OOTP6.5????
