or I didnt read the manual as closely as possible but how do you start a league without a draft, or how do you start in a year other than 2006?

The year is in the upper left corner of the initial universe/leage setup, right under where you name your universe/league.

If you want to start without a draft, you'll have to uncheck the 'initial draft' box in one of the options in league setup.

I assume you must create a new league and not use a default quick start?
