Rahman vs. Maskaev is PPV?

Saw that this fight will be a PPV fight from HBO, are they kidding?

Margarito will also defend his WBO WW title but unless he'd fight Floyd on that card, I see no reason to pay for these fights.

I'm thinking at $4.99 I'm 50/50 on a buy . . . I think the price tag will be a little higher though.

Funny, for that price I'd probably be willing, just to see Margarito but you're right.

At least $29-$39. Don't the PPV guys understand that unless it's a great fight or a guy like Oscar, the PPV #'s will be low for fights like this? Unless they understand that & don't expect big returns.

The problem is that even with a relatively low amount of PPV buys, they still make more money this way.

You're probably right. That just seems like a strange fight for PPV. I'm glad the Taylor/Wright fight is regular HBO, a much more interesting fight IMO.

Not really, PPV isn't just for real big fights they also throw fight on there that no one wants in hope of making some money off them. It's why you see fights like Mercer/Briggs, Barrera/Fana, etc on PPV HBO or Showtime aren't going to want to show these fights so they throw them on PPV in hopes of making a little money.

I heard the Barerra/Fana fight was thrown on PPV because he didn't want to wait until HBO had a date open for him. That was another PPV card I didn't buy.

Just seems strange, to me, PPV is something that's so good, they make you pay to see it. If they make money on cards like this, more power to them!

It really dispels the notion that boxing's in so much trouble if weak cards like those can make money. We know cards with Oscar or great match-ups usually do better than they expect/project.

Hopefully the money that the OLN is shelling out per bout will help relieve some of that. I think I read they start their fight cards in July.

Another thing that seems to dispel the notion is the amount of boxing that is on tv now. It seems like we are getting at least 4 a week lately between ESPN, HBO and Showtime. Once the OLN fires up it should even be more.

Good point & I read OLN was planning on shelling out something like $250K per card - much more than the $30-$50K ESPN2 antes up for their cards.

I'm looking forward to it. I think it might just be Bob Arum fighters though. But who cares the more boxing on tv the better.

You said it mh, the more the better!

I've been watching some of OLN's coverage of the NHL & came away impressed. If that's what we can expect from their boxing coverage, it should really be good.

With all this sudden coverage of boxing, they'd better start rebuilding boxing clubs or we'll be seeing the same 10 or 12 journeymen on every week. I hear America has a huge problem with illegal aliens. If they have arms and hands like us Earthmen I'd say put them in the ring.

I think an illegal alien/contender/reality show hybrid is in order.
The losers get sent back to their home planet and the winners advance to fight 5 or 7 round fights.
