Any idea of whether or how your rating translator will work with the new version?

I am addicted to that thing.

Addiction? I was once told that addiction is almost never a good thing. So I guess that I should probably make the next version of the program non-addictive by making it suck more. Lol. O.K. That just simply proves that I still suck at making jokes. Seriously, thanks for the kind praise.

Well, the answer to your question is that I simply won't know how rating translator will work with OOTP2006 until OOTP2006 is out. However, I do suspect that a total rewrite of the program is probably necessarry depending on how the new export function works and how rating works in OOTP2006. A direct portover of the old version will most definitely not work (properly) as the old rating translator relies on the export files from CommishJoe's CSV exporter and the specific rating-stats relationship in the OOTP6/6.5. I remembered that Markus said the new export will be a database dump and he didn't give any info on the possible CSV output. So, data interfacing of the program will have to be re-wirtten. Markus also mentioned that G/F ratio will have impact on the pitcher HR rate in OOTP2006. So, that's at least another rating factor that the new program would have to take into account. Besides, I suspect that Markus might *tweak/modify* the stats to rating relationship in OOTP2006. Of course, most of us (read: non-beta testers) will only know how rating work once OOTP2006 is our hands. In end, I expect that I will have to first spend quite a bit of time on studying the ratings. Then, I will have to review regression and programming books. Re-wirte the program and hammer out the bugs. And all those activies will take quite a bit of time in total.

On the other hands, who knows, maybe the new rating translator won't need extensive rewrite. Hmm, I suppose we will only know the answer after May 31 when OOTP2006 is released.

I was afraid this would be the answer. Good luck with your work, though, and maybe keep us updated.
