patch 5.14 and full free version

is this ever going to be addressed? I realize its a free game but the point of releasing it for free was to entice future customers. I think they would walk away after they cannot resign free agents the way they expect.

Just my 2 cents... I dont see how hard it is to change the version of the free download.

You'd think in trying to entice new OOTP users to drop cash on the new version, they'd go ahead and do the likely very quick fix to make it work.

Just goes to show why I haven't pre-ordered the new OOTP.

Its not a link that needs fixed. They don't have a 5.14b patch for the free version of the game. The free version is 5.13, the 5.14b patch is for the commercial version of the game.

well that's the point, isn't it? The 5.13 version had a pretty major bug in it that killed free agent negotiations. Why release a free version that isnt your best work? In hopes of them BUYING version 5?????

I've already got two people in my league using the free version and at least one thinking about just buying the darn thing. But it really isn't too hard to get around those issues in an online league, since offers are only made using 5.14b, I just have to tell my GMs that what they see and what I see may not be equal since they are using 5.13, etc...

However, my point was simply, its not just a link change they need to do. They need to fix the 5.14b code (exe) that checks for the ELicense and the ELicense dll. For whatever reason (I suspect they just goofed) they made this change to the 5.13 exe and not the 5.14b exe.

reposting what I posted in the other thread:

I have a friend who was on the fence about OOTP, as he is a college student and funds are probably somewhat limited. So, I pointed him to the OOTP5 free download as a try-it-before-you-buy-it.

Now, he's experiencing this bug, and OOTPD is losing a potential customer because of it.

Why can't the 5.14b patch simply be made available? If I were in his shoes, I'd probably skip buying OOTP6 or even OOTP7.
