Don't you just hate it when this happens?
Imagine a big fight between Jersey Joe Walcott (20-4 (11 KO's)) and Greg Page (12-1 (10 KO's)). Jersey Joe is a mile ahead on all cards (79-72 (twice) and 78-73) when Joe gets cut and the fight is stopped in Page's favour.
I kind of feel sorry for the virtual Jersey Joe and a bit frustrated at a "false" result. Yes I can rematch them but Joe still has that blot on his record. Anyway it gave me an idea about the fight history record screen. Go check it out in the Wish List thread. Please. |

Don't see too many first cut stoppages anymore ... hate it when it happens. I also love/hate the feeling I get when one of my favs gets cut in the 4th round, knowing full well there is a good chance the fight could be stopped later.

Likewise, sometimes when bringing an up and coming puncher along, I'll match them against someone whose chin is very reachable and wouldn't you know - the guy makes it to the final bell. All that effort to create the "aura" of invincibility and the whole thing goes up in smoke.
There's nothing worse than seeing a young George Foreman or Sonny Liston go 5 and 0 in the first five bouts while only scoring 2 knockouts. When setting their career stage to prime, it's a whole lot easier. |

I know exactly what you guys mean. I had a great fight going for a title @ 130 with Diego Corrales & Genero Hernandez & the fight is stopped due to a cut in the 9th in a give & take battle.

BTW mh, I saw Davis stepped down in the paper this morning. I was thinking that you got your wish. Think Alford is coming home?

That's who I want but as long as Davis is gone I'm happy. Ideally I'd like an IU guy with coaching experience ... Whitman, Woodson, Smart, Dakich .... someone like that.

^ I hear you!
I wasn't too sure about Sendek @ NC State but he got us to 20 wins faster than any Wolfpack team since the great championship team in 1974 so maybe (after 10 long years!) he is the right guy after all. |

It needs to be someone who cares about the University and it's history ... like the difference between Willingham and Weis at ND.

I love Steve Alford and talked to him several times while he was playing at New Castle and at IU but I don't want him to take the job. Expectations would be too high and it wouldn't help him to recruit anywhere except the Hoosier state. I don't think any longer you can be a national power with just Indiana high school kids. I'd love to see IU pull somebody who has already taken a team to the Final 4. I will anxiously await who they can get. Rick T. |

I agree but I'd like an IU guy first. If going outside the family then it needs to be someone with a proven track record but young enough to stick around for a long time. Matta is getting alot of speculation and I've heard that Ohio State may get put on probation from the O'Brien days that would prevent post-season play. If that happens supposively Oden would opt out. That would be interesting.
Tom Crean would be another I'd like. If it's an inexperienced guy (which I can't see) the only one I'd be interested in is Steve Wojoak;japgoijfio;djg from Duke. I am aware we kinda thread-jacked you Boxingnut ... sorry about that!!!! |
