Santana, Peavy, Beckett, Cabrera, Michael Young

How did you get a team stacked like that? You have far too many top level SP.

Santana, Peavy, Cabrera, Bonds (worth the risk, IMO), Howard.

Bonds???? No way not in a keeper league...he is retiring at season's end...and is questionable at best to make a 100 games.

Yeah. I did that once, but it was in an auction league. I bid heavily on all the top flight SPs of the time (I had the Braves rotation of the mid-90s). Throw in some high bids on a few power hitters and other guys who get the job done offensively ... win the title. Having Barry Bonds for league minimum was even better.

Thus, does anybody know of any good auction-based keeper leagues these days. The one I used to be in is out of business and I haven't found any more these days.

I have found a service that would run a league, assuming I could find enough people interested in pitching in a few dollars a year to cover the cost of the service. It's about $75/year. If 10-15 people pitched in $10/each we could have the service and enough for a nice prize.

And he could put up a .340/40/120 in those 100 games. The man is sickly good. Not many other players can do that in a full season. Risk/reward, like I said.

Eh, but Bonds is the kind of guy you want to keep off OTHER teams. The day you get rid of Bonds is the day he goes ape ****, hits 50 dingers, bats .330, gets lots of walks, RBIs, and otherwise scores lots of fantasy points.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised to find out he checks fantasy leagues to see if people drop him, then gets mad and punishes the ball.

LOL...Ok...If your talking about a regular league...But in a Keeper...I'd rather take some of the young talent he has than risk Bonds.

EDIT---Just saw it was LAST year of keeper league!

I change my opinion..and humbly ask for Fantasy respect!!!

I've been trying to find a keeper-auction league, as well. I'd be interested.

Keep in mind, my keeper tem won a championship and was a contender year after year. Since my league had a DL, I would take a player like Bonds, even if it meant he would be on the DL for most of the year. Even if this is his last year, Bonds is a guy you want. Period. You don't want him on another person's team. Bonds has the potential to win a league by himself.

There were a few times when Bonds would put up ridiculous numbers and score enough points on his own to win a week. It was a H2H league and he often scored enough to outscore the other team (or at least make it easier for the rest of my team).

Didn't he say it's the last year of the league? I'd go Santana, Cabrera, Delgado, Bonds and Bay.

I hear what your saying...and I will be keeping an eye on Bonds throughout draft...but I have won without him before...and will do soon again. It's jsut (especially) this year...it just seems like Bonds doesn't want to play anymore. I'll admit when my opponent who was in 2nd place brought him off the DL last year and he hit like 5 HR in 6 games I was scared. But overall...I am taking a more conservative approach...i just don't think he is worth the risk....MAYBE in late rounds...

If you already ahve him on your squad in the last year of keeper league (just realized it was his last year)...then yeah I guess i would hold onto him...especialy if i had DL spots.

Cool. This is what I'm looking at:

www.fantasyauctioneer.com

For $69.99 they'll run a live auction-draft and use RotoWire to run the league (stats, scoring, and all that stuff).

I've also looked at www.fanstar.com ... a bit more expensive, but seems a bit more professional.

If you are interested, send me a PM.

I would want at least 10 players ... 2 divisions of 5 teams to do this. With 10 players at $10 each it's $25-$30 prize for first. FanStar allows up to 32 teams, which I think might be a bit too many. 16 teams is doable, with 4 divisions of 4 teams in 2 conferences. With 16 teams there is almost $100 in prize money and you could have a huge championship prize or smaller prizes split between the top two teams. And, if people pitched in more than $10, it could be a higher prize.

However, if nobody wanted prizes and just wanted friendly competition, the cost of the league could just be split and it'd be about $5 each.

Just PM me and once I get 10, I can get the thing started.

My initial thought was to keep
Santana
Cabrera
Peavy
Howard
Bonds

I think the first three (Santana, Cabrera, Peavy) are locks and for the other 2 spots it's between Howard, Bonds, Young, Bay and Beckett. I'd rather have Beckett than Prior, I think, considering health and team success.

Anyone want to make a case for Beckett/Bay/Young over Howard/Bonds?
