My online leagues

I joined the OOTP forums about 4 months ago, with a post in the Online Leagues forum discussing the types of leagues I wanted to join. I was in search of 2 very different experiences from a GM perspective:

1. A struggling team in need of rebuilding in an established real or fictional league.

2. A fictional league starting from scratch, to build a team from the ground up.

My backgound with OOTP was fairly extensive. I've been playing for about two years (started with Season Ticket Baseball 2003), but never got involved in a good online league. I'm happy to report that I've found leagues for each of the challenges I was looking for. I plan to use this thread as a way to chronical my experiences with these two scenarios. In this post, I will discuss the leagues that I have joined and the teams I'm working with. I will follow with updates as to how my teams are progressing and what I'm doing to try to achieve my goals for each scenario.

1. A Rebuilding Case (eMLB) - The perfect rebuilding oportunity came to me by way of the eMLB. This league has been around a long time and has a good group of dedicated and active owners. I took the New York Mets, one of only 7 eMLB teams to never make the playoffs in the league's 11 sim years of existence (eMLB is currently simming the 2011 season). The team has a .469 all time winning percentage and was 71-91 in the past season. This Mets team was burried in financial trouble after signing a couple huge free agents in 2010, with no results to show. The front office was $14,000,000 in the hole in 2010, with cash supplies dwindling. The upside of this team was a solid minor league system with some talent already working it's way to AAA level. In summary, a team in definite need of some TLC and direction, but with some hope.

2. New Fictional League (FBA) - After a long search for an upstart fictional league, I came across the FBA. This is a 20-team fictional league with the twist of adding former MLB players in each draft class. I liked this idea and decided to pick a team from the 8 remaining without first looking at rosters. This would give me the challenge of stepping into a fresh team and building it from the ground up. I selected the Roanoke Rapids, simply because I happen to like the town of Roanoke, Virginia. I was pleseantly surprised by team and will expand on it in some following posts. I'm really excited about my chances with this team and expect the Rapids to be a "win now" team.

Coming soon - Updates on how both of my online challenges are progressing!
