I've done this for years and years. I'm not too ambitious. I usually take a fairly average guy and see what happens.
In my 1901 and forward league I started by adding my grandfather when he turned 18 (in 1920) to my team as a shortstop. In my 1960s league I added my dad. I like to call him now and then and tell him how his career is going.

The AFBL allows this but surprisingly, nobody has chosen to do so.
One owner found a namesake player in the league by chance, and drafted him. He turned into an All Star shortstop, which was pretty cool.

Wow, I don't know why I never thought of this. I think I'll do this next season in my fictional league :-)

I went even further. I created an entire team made up of my class (I'm in high school.) For me, it just makes it more fun..

In the BTTF league they create a rookie named after you. I played my first Major season in the bigs this past season going
3-2 with One save in 55.2 innings as a starter/ reliver. I was injured for a good part of the season. I don't have any plans to trade myself away. |

When I brought my Genesis to college with me in '97, I renamed my NHL '97 team after all my friends there. It was a blast to have my roomy lead the league in points while I was 2nd. His girlfriend was my best defensewoman
