CubbyFan23's MLB 2006 Rosters Underway
Last year I released my 2005 set, including all stats from 2005, minor leagues, etc. etc. I plan on doing the same this year, and I'll be using this thread as an update. As in last year's file, I've found a way to erase the stats on the roster screen itself so it doesn't show bogus simmed games. If you have any suggestions from last year's set, any features you can think of, etc. please throw them out here!
I plan on releasing them after I get a certain # of teams done so you guys can give them the look over and make sure I haven't made any dumb mistakes. There's probably something wrong with me, as last year I loved doing all the stats (to a certain point) and so this should be yet another challenge to finish over Christmas break. Not sure why I made a thread even, but just a heads up.

I actually used your roster set for my online league. The biggest thing I would say that needs work is the service time for players. Just about all of the minor league players you added had their service time all out of wack. There were 2004 draft picks listed as having no more options, having played in the majors for a year a 4 years pro. This is a very lengthy fix that takes about 90 minutes-2 hours per team to get done, but it is worth it if you want your update to be accurate.

You know...another way to fix the stats problem is just to take the Lahman database and enter 2005 data...then enter some type of data for 2006 (doesn't matter what because you will change the ratings later). Then you import a historical season starting in 2006 and can edit away. This enables you to not only have 2005 stats, but also the player's entire statistical history. |

Make sure Felix Hernandez is the best young pitcher in the league. Here's a good link to back it up.
http://fantasybaseball.rotoworld.com/content/story.asp?sport=MLB&storyid=18259 Please notice Felix Hernandez is number 2 only behind Johan Santana. Edit: There is also another Mariner that is constantly underrated, Yuniesky Betancourt. He has been compared to Ozzie Smith, only with a better bat. |

Being the insane baseball fan that I am (I think I am perhaps actually crazy to pay $60 for it but oh well) I have a membership to Baseball America. I'll be basing most of the minor league prospects off scouting reports from there and a few other websites.
I agree totally about the service time. Its something I noticed wayy after I finished them that no one ever mentioned, and will be put into these rosters. Thanks for the heads up! |

Clay Davenport's future DTA's are also a good source. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/statistics/eqamin.php Follow the links at the bottom of the page. |

I'm not sure what the deal is with it. I found it by accident, I don't think they actually have a link to it anywhere on their site. |

make sure you make the right ratings by making the prospects who have done well in the MLB this year (Francoeur, Howard, Street, Gomes, Felix, etc.) good pitching/hitting ratings.. not just spect ratings.

I also reccommend you stay up all night and work on this and have it ready by Sunday, I would give you a dollar if you did that.

Minor Leaguers
CubbyFan, I liked your rosters too, glad to hear your undertaking this project. Like Derek said, service time was a huge problem (players going to arb too early, becoming FAs too early, minor league free agents too early), also not all of the contracts were correct.
A great point of reference for minor league evaluation might be John Sickle's site http://www.minorleagueball.com/ He uses an easy grading (A, B-, C+, etc) system to evaluate minor leaguers that would transfer nicely to OOTP's star rating system. He has a book for easy reference, but he often gives out ratings on the top 20 each system on his site. It might be easier to use something like this than try to transfer scouting reports into ratings. Also, since Sickles is one person, the ratings should be pretty consistent. Here's a link for his book: http://www.mastersball.com/sickels/ The grades are available through the search only (see below), maybe he's just giving reviews of prospects to sell his book. Sickles
To find the grades on his site go to Search and "Grades" scroll down until you see an article like Texas Rangers Top 20 Prospects or Philadelphia Phillies Top 20 Prospects continue to scroll through the pages to find each team. For instance here's the Twins top 20: http://www.minorleagueball.com/story.../16/1261/65162
Additionally you can just search a team name like Oakland Athletics, and find the article Oakland Athletics Top 20 Prospects like here: http://www.minorleagueball.com/story.../14/131658/119 Of course the grades are year old, that's why I recommend his book Last edited by pseudofool; 12-16-2005 at 08:05 PM. |

that was from Feb. 16 though. There are many prospects that probably changed "grades" from Feb. to now.

Maybe you guys can help me out -- my editing program (Pierre's) isn't saving things. I make the changes, quit the program, but things aren't saved. Is there something I'm missing?
