Automatic contract renewals

Is there a good way to tell how many automatic renewals a guy has? Say someone offers me a player in a trade that is making $100,000 and his contrace expires this year. Is there a way to tell if he is in his last $100,000 year before free agency?

The two ways I could think of would be to look at his history and see how many years he's been in the bigs, or to look at his team's roster and see if he's going to be a FA. Is there a better way?

umm, a guy on his five year renwal ALWAYS says it expires this year. It just gets renewed four times before he goes to free agency.

You can look at a player's page to tell you what year he had his first major league playing time. Add 5 years to it and you'll have the year his first contract officially comes up.

On the Team Player Contract Page, it will say "AUTOMATIC" to the right side where it shows the number of years left if he is going to be automatically renewed.

View this page from the page where it shows all the financial stuff for the team.

ummmm, i think jor meant on the roster screen. a player who's contract is up will become a possible free agent. if he isnt a possible free agent then it will be as you said BUT only on some screens. the best way to know is to look at the free agent list for the new year. (well thats only if you want to know if the guys's 5 yeras are up.)
