Save game option

I have not played OOTP since version 4. Is it possible to save a game in progress?

Save game? Why would they ever include that?

Yeah, that would be a pretty solid addition.

I doubt if we will ever see it, but I'd really like to see it. That way you could have a simulation lab for trying out different strategies for a given situation.

If you're playing pre-1947 American baseball, then the All-American Mod (a namefiles/ethnicites/nation/cities file pack) is for you.

Yes, I would like to see this feature added for version 7. I find it curious that it is not in the game now. Sometimes I have to sim games to the end when life interrupts my OOTPB world...which tends to happen often, since there are other things in life besides OOTPB. But hey, I sure enjoy the heck out of it anyway.

I think OOTP2006 should be like my Commodore 64 before I got a floppy drive. You have to manually type in the whole source code from a magazine or book before you can play (checking the little checksums at the end of each line), and then when mom makes you turn off the computer and come to dinner you lose everything. Nonvolatile memory and storage is for wusses.

I agree about the saved games. Mind you, it won't be as big an issue with 2006...the #1 reason I wanted saved games was for when real life intruded and I had to deal with the screen saver problem, which is now a thing of the past.

Still...it would be useful, and I like MD's idea of being able to try out different things in a particular scenario.

Checksums? Checksums? You just want everything handed to you, don't you?

P.S. Anyone remember when one of the magazines (Byte? I can't remember.) would print these weird barcode thingies next to the code, and you could get this reader that would scan the barcode and dump the code into your computer?

Pfft. I remember when the computers we had were just rocks. And the games we played on them were other rocks. And you know something? We were happy with that.

Besides, I'll take a good command line tool over most GUI applications today anyway.
