"Ready Made" Solo League Project

I've decided I want to make a league file that is ready to use by anyone to get underway immediately with a customized, sleek looking fictional league for use with OOTP 6.5a. Just download and away you go after making minor adjustments to suit your needs. It will be a generic American/Canadian league that is very basic. A starting point for fictional solo'ers so they don't have to spend hours setting up a league every time they want to start one..but still have the benefit of logos and a staggered schedule, etc.

20 teams, 2 leagues, 4 divisions, 5 teams per division
Custom stickware schedule
Pre-95 league totals (of course you can change it back)
Clean league records history
Fictional player base ready for initial draft (contributers can have their names added for fun)
Custom ballparks

Ok, what I need from the graphics community for this project are submissions for nicknames and logos for each team that will be in the league. It will be sort of a contest to get your logo into the download that many OOTP players will use. After I have collected enough logos for a particular team I'll post a poll to vote on which will be used in the league.

Stipulations for logo submissions
-------------------------------
Must have no objection to me making small edits to the logo to make them all have the same general look to them.

You must have the logo in layers so I can do this. If you don't have photoshop (which I use) it will work fine to send me each layer seperately as a .bmp

Here's the list of cities. Choose a fitting nickname and logo it...submit your work here to get it into the polls.

League 1 (name to be determined)

Pacific
Los Angeles
San Francisco
Seattle
Vancouver
San Diego

Central
Chicago
Detroit
Minneapolis
Phoenix
Kansas City

League 2 (name to be determined)

Northeast
New York
Philadelphia
Washington D.C.
Toronto
Boston

Southern
Dallas
Houston
Miami
Atlanta
St. Louis

Great idea.

Hope you get your logos. But be aware there are only a few designers frequenting this Forum on a regular basis now.

But you might entice some of the oldtimers back with it.

Hope so.

Your Laseron league inspired me to create a fictional baseball world. I am still trying to get it done, but have really had a hard time getting a webdesigner that will finish the project. In the past year I have had two designers and am now on the third. It looks like I may get it done this time. Hope so, it has really been a frustrating experience.

Just a suggestion...you need to create a thread with a title that might entice all of the old logo designers to come back and "show their stuff". I am not too sure, they would read the thread as it is titled now. It is perfectly good right now, but they might skip over it.

For example:

"Best Logo Designers Wanted for Special League Project for OOTPB Community"

Awesome suggestions! The nicknames wouldn't be selected until the logo is done, but this would give designers an idea. Like if there were two logos for Boston and one was for the Shamrocks and one was for the Minutemen it would be chosen by which logo won in a poll.

I'm guilty of not doing any logo work recently too. Hopefully its about time everyone has had a long enough break from it and interest picks up again soon.

That is awesome Laseron had that kind of effect on the community. I have seen some outstanding similar leagues that came out recently after the LBA. Its really my favorite kind of fictional baseball. Are you going to run it as an online league or just solo?

I am sort of toying with the idea of running a new league from scratch when 2006 comes out. But I don't want it to interfere with the LBA in any way so it all depends where I stand in that league a few months from now I guess. I just have not been consistant enough to Commish with my schedule...plus I have to admit single life makes it hard to be consistant (need to have a routine schedule and be more organized to commish a league).

Thing is I get out of the army in 6 months and I'll have a lot more time...and I'll be moving in with my girlfriend and I'm guessing that will make me be a bit more "domestic". In turn...more reliable. I just don't want to start another league and then not have enough time or motivation to stay on top of it.

No, I don't play online. I don't like financials. Money has almost ruined baseball. I am a child of the 50's...when there were only 16 teams and the rosters stayed basically the same year after year and you knew every player on every team...fan loyalty is non-existent today,...when you really do need a scorecard (cost $5 or more) to know who's playing...and it cost $100 for two to go to a major league game and get decent seats. I hope to go to all of the major league parks before I die...still got about 25 to go. But I am retired and hope to do it in the next few years. But at $100 a game, my wife and I will only go once in our lifetime. We love to go to minor league games...great seats, reasonable prices, good competition and skill...recently went to see the Ft. Worth Cats in the Central League...free parking, brand new stadium built where the old LeGrave Field was...and is named LaGrave Field...only cost us about $18 for tickets, hot dogs, cokes and I think an ice cream bar. And the game was just as good as the Yankees-Indians that cost $125...and a lot more convenient to get to...park right by the stadium. No need to ride trains and subways...Montgomery has a beautiful new stadium, too...but a little pricier...Memphis has a fine new stadium, but expensive and all the good seats have been gobbled up by corporations. We could only get seats way down the rightfield line. We also went to Asheville's McCormick Stadium where the Tourists play. It is an old stadium, but has character and charm. It seems to be carved out of a cliff. The rightfield dimensions are unique...a high fence from the line to right center...down the line about 300 feet...and only about 360 in the gap. A visiting batter was thrown out easily at second on a ball hit to the gap. It looked like a double in most ballparks, but not at McCormick. And I think it was because of the short fence. Free parking here, too. We spent about $15...best seats in the house, too.

My wife really is a baseball fan and can keep a scoreboard like a pro...in great detail...not just 4-3 (ground out second to first), but if it was hit hard or just a routine play or an outstanding play (she uses an * asterisk to indicate that). She bought me a book, The Joy of Keeping Score by Paul Dickson. So now we always go to minor league games on our summer vacations and she keeps score. Since I always complain about the overpriced rinky-dink scorebooks at the ballparks, she created a scorebook for me with plenty of space to put anything and everything you would want to keep track of. But for some reason, each season I have to teach her that LF is 7 and RF is 9...also the shortstop is 6. She always fusses about the shortstop and thinks he should logically be 5.

As I kid I would pick up the Sporting News at the newsstand and practically memorize it. I knew all of the Southern Association rosters and could converse knowledgeably about the PCL, American Association, International League, Texas League, Eastern League, South Atlantic League, Western Association...and a little about the other 40 minor leagues...like the Class D Evangeline League, Class C Cotton States League and Class B Carolina League. I could follow the players from Class D to the Majors. I would have made a pretty good teenage scout for some team. I was a ballboy and sometime batboy for the Mobile Bears of the Southern Association. Gary Bell (Indians), Bill Dailey (Twins), Gordy Coleman (Reds), Dick Stigman (Twins), Don Zimmer (Dodgers), Forest "Spook" Jacobs (A's), Walt Moryn (Cubs), Jim Gentile (Orioles), Don Demeter (Dodgers) and Dick Brown (Tigers) were my favorites Bear players. I also got to talk to Harmon Killebrew when he came to town with the Chattanooga Lookouts. It was a great time in my life.

There was a quiz show on TV popular at the time, The 64,000 Dollar Question, where you could win, what we thought was a "fortune" at that time. I remember answering all of the questions when a baseball expert was on it.

I should also give DreamTeams a lot of credit for inspiring my Federal Baseball Association of Ruthlandia (FBAR) and United Baseball Association of Tycobbia (UBAT). Both Laseron and the Metro are my favorite leagues. I hope mine will be half as good as they are.

I just got Fidel Montoya to create me a website. He is the third webdesigner I have worked with to get my site created. It has been a long and frustrating year. The first two just didn't have the time to finish it. I think he will do the job for me. So far, he has been impressive.

Many of the names already have logos which I have been using in my solo ficitional league. The logos were created by various designers who have posted to this bulletin baord at one time or another.

I can't take credit for all of the logos. I only created a few of them. I will post the ones I created. If you like I can re-post the ones created by others designers .

Wow. Excellent story Eugene. I love reading peoples stories about 1950's baseball, especially from folkes who were there. I was a child of the 70's and grew up watching the Dodgers when they had Steve Garvy and the gang. Went to many a Dodger game with my dad and family. Teams still stayed together then, too. But, I love reading and watching film about 50's baseball and anything further back. It was such a classic era for baseball. Thanks.

Yeah, thanks for sharing that Eugene. Great story. I haven't made it to enough baseball games in my lifetime, that is for sure. I saw 3 games at the Kingdome and 1 at Safeco (No comparison between the 2...Safeco was a dream come true).

San Diego Sun Rays

Found the SunRays logo while googling. After some research I'm making a guess that this logo was done by our Cuss who has insane talent for logos. I just put San Diego on here. For some looks at what Cuss (if it is indeed him) check these babies out.

Thanks for the props Faroo, you are too kind. You didn't have to google for that logo, I did that one here for one of those logo contests.

Thought it looked familiar. I was just googling Sunrays logo and bam. I think most of our logo contest stuff got axed in the crash but I could be wrong.
