My first attempt to do a logo
Here is my first logo...actually just a very minor rework of someone else's fine logo...I apologize, but I could not figure out where I got the basic logo.
I stuggled with it using Paint, but finally got it done. The hardest part was trying to line up the text...Paint doesn't have any instructions for moving and lining up test. I couldn't figure out how to center the panther and the nickname, so I had a lot of space to fill at the bottom. I also had to redo all of the black because the original was "true Black" which get splotchy and spotty in the game. The gold on the panther font also badly faded in the game. I had to redo it, too. The font is is ragged on the edges. Feel free to constructively criticize it...if it is bad...tell me. Last edited by Eugene Church; 12-23-2005 at 02:17 PM. |

Here is another revisionist work...original was done by BigD4VT...he did the beautiful script.
I may have caused the bottom edge of Sunbirds to be a little ragged on the edges. Last edited by Eugene Church; 12-23-2005 at 02:17 PM. |

A very slight revision of the Huntsville Stars logo (knuckler had used it for a previous Stars logo for me)...one of the big flaws is the town name is not centered...I couldn't figure out how to move it in Paint.
The edges of the font are ragged, too. Any help or comments from the fine designers would be appreciated. Last edited by Eugene Church; 12-23-2005 at 02:17 PM. |

pepeda did the fine original for the Kensington Blues...he did the city name and nickname...I just added in the stripes.
I tried to match the yellow color on the Blues font, but didn't do it very well. How do you get the Butter Yellow shade? I also just noticed that the left edge need a touch up (dark blue needs to run the entire length...I only put it half way). I redid the color on the stripes in post # I think it looks a little better. It is closer to the butter yellow trim on Blues. Last edited by Eugene Church; 12-23-2005 at 02:17 PM. |

Using paint they are solid logos, I would recommend trying a demo of Paint Shop Pro (Jasc.com) or Adobe Photoshop.

EC, nice to see you taking a stab. You obviously have a certain style you are going after. Keep it up!

One day it would be nice to do them half as well as you can do them...you are one of the Hall of Fame masters here on the board. It is always good to hear from you. Any suggestions on a software program that is easy to learn and turns out good logos? |

![]() Actually, I do all my graphic work in PIP. It's a pretty old program, but i've become quite adept at using it.

I have a copy of Corel Photo-Paint 11 that I don't need. My dad sent it to me when he received it with some hardware he had bought. He didn't have any need for it either.
It's a genuine, legitmate CD of the program, so no worries there. The thing is, it's a pretty advanced program, probably on par with the latest version of Adobe Photoshop. Anyway, I just thought I'd mention it. |

you know the logo section is past its glory days when EC is the primary provider...nice job to start with though.

So take your time and learn. It's probably best to stick to simpler stuff and work your way up. Quote:

![]() The Glory Days are long gone here. Two years ago I had 80 logos made in about a month by some real fine talent. Now days go by without a request being done. jdew is about the only one left. Thanks goodness for him. But who knows...maybe there are some budding talents out there like dbacks, nmleague, knuckler, Cooleyvol, LivnLegend, Treches, Cuss, Markmeister, FastLane, illeracula, pepeda, Jermanfu, Le Grande Orange, BigCity, TrueCardinalFan, Cardinal Rule, bigD4VT, davwms, SandMan, SanDiegoPadre and quite a few others. I am pitiful when it comes to graphic arts, but I just thought I would give it a shot and see if I will eventually be able to create a few fairly good logos. It will take a while, but I think I will give it a try. Last edited by Eugene Church; 11-28-2005 at 03:14 PM. |

EC, you should take up on LGO's offer, that's a very good application, it may be a little overwhelming, but I think with your passion in logo design, you will be able to figure it out. I suggest you also get a book at your local book store or amazon.com to help you get into the program. There is still plenty of time before OOTPBM2006 is released, just enough to pick up a new hobby, don't you think?
![]() As for the logos above, I like the blues one. It's very neat and clean looking. ![]() Keep on the good work!

I agree with you, the Kensington Blues is the best of the lot, mainly thanks to pepeda's fine original work on it. Maybe I might try LGO's program. I could always return it to him, if it is too difficult. Are the "_________ for Dummies" Series worth buying? Last edited by Eugene Church; 11-28-2005 at 02:40 AM. |
