Just when you thought you'd seen it all.....
This is a 32 team league. Two leagues the East and West. Each league has 4 divisions of 4 teams broken into geographical regions. Only the division winners make the playoffs so Idaho won their division. Cinderella has met her match I believe.

Nice! Looks like they rode their two ace pitchers to the title.

Well its a pitching dominant league. Look at the ERA leaders. I've never seen a sub .500 team win a WS before though.

That's the stuff of great and enduring stories, Faroo6. Part of the magic of the game is that it can inspire that kind of hopefulness in our efforts. Truly a remarkable win. That must have been an experience beyond description. But I hope you'll try!
I looked at the left column stats first fully expecting to find a shortened season only to be further surprised that those performances yielded the WS over 162 games. Again, outstanding. Edit: I'm guessing Nuno's saves were more important than we can imagine.

It wasn't my team. I'm California. Not much to describe. I'm a builder, as soon as I get knocked out I just sim the postseason. I only caught it because I saw Idaho as the winner and thought, wait didn't I just see them under .500 near the end of the season. Then I went and did some investigating. Their ranks are nothing you would expect of a World Champion. Even though the league leader only hit about 20 HRs, they didn't have anyone get double digits. I'm just in awe that they beat the teams they did. These are the things that makes baseball so great. Anything can happen at any one time.

How does the league's 5th Opposing AVG end up being the league's 21st ERA? That's crazy!

Did anyone else notice that they were losing 3-1 going into the bottom of the 8th in game seven of the WS, scored one run in the bottom of the 8th, the TYING run in the Bottom of the 9th, and the WINNING run in the Bottom of the 10th??? Honestly, can this story GET any better?

The league looks heavily dominated by pitching, you had a 2.64 ERA and that was only good for 21st. Must be playing with a different era than modern I assume if your in 1980

Heh, this thread made me take a look at my own solo league, which has been in existence for almost 60 seasons now. I recalled that there had been a losing team winning the World Series once. It was a 78-84 team that won their division and defeated two 100+ win powerhouses handily (4-0 and 4-1) to win it all. Their offense was pretty dreadful, while their pitching was only okay- above average for their league, but mediocre overall. This is the only losing team to ever win it all, but there have been other losing teams to make the playoffs, and I think at least one other has reached the World Series. Interestingly, one of the division winners in the other league was also below .500 that year. They weren't as lucky, however.
Naturally, it was my team that lost this WS.... |

Speaking of Buckner, did anyone hear that interview he did with Dan Patrick last year after the Red Sox won the WS? Man, he sure is bitter...

The Dakota Woodchucks won the Mountain Division this season with a 79-84 record winning a one game playoff. In the first round they faced off against my California Quakes, a juggernaut who finished 113-49. After somehow meddling my way to a 2-2 series, I send out my #2 who finished the season with these awesome numbers.
16-3, 1.60, 235.2 IP, 42 ER, and only 9 HR. Game 5 of the Division series, I got this right. Oh yeah his clutch perfomance...SUFFERS. He lays this egg. 5.2 IP, 5 ER, and 2 HR. We'll see if the Mountain Magic carries Dakota to the title like it did Idaho. More on this soon.
