Worse Player EVER?

Was going through CATOBASE for a league I started simming and think I may have found the worse player ever over 5000 AB. Do you agree? Can you top this?????

This guy has under .200 ba for his career!!! I'd shoot the GM's that gave this guy a chance.... noticed hime because he was number 2 on teh all time stolen base leaderboards...

Looks like he was a defensive replacement for most of his career. This guy is still active so he may get his BA back to .200. But his contact is 16!

He's like the Bob Ueckers and Mario Mendoza's of real life, but with a helluva lot more AB.

I thought I could beat that, but my guy had 5,223 atbats while hitting .210. He only had 7 SB and 146 homeruns in 1774 games. He never won a gold glove, never even won a player of the week award, but somehow he did play on two WS teams.

He did hit .282 in 47 games in post season with 6 homeruns.

0-GG, 0-POW, 0-WS Teams.... Your guy hit for more power so may be a bit better with his .210 average. What were his OBP and SLG?

I was wondering, how does a player get 1162 hits and 945 walks????

If you choose to fill out the minor leagues with fictional players, you can instantly have about 40 more candidates for your "Worst Player Ever" award.

This guy was strictly from the initial draft.....the teams he played for never made the playoffs, and his last contract is for 648,000 for 4 years. His history file shows 1,135,000 in arbitration, signed free agent in 1961 for 1.7M and 5 yrs. Signed a minor league contract in 1966, and then 4 years for the 648K.

This proves the AI is dumb, 1.7M for 5 years.....but I guess at that time his BA was a robust .220 and he was entering his prime age (26).....

His ratings going into 1971- 16/64/74

I wish I had this player and kept him in my minors. These kind of guys usually hit about 700 homers in the minors... I had one guy 24/56/56, who typically hit 50 homers a year in A, AA...... Dumb ass retired at age 31 for me after he had 410 minor league homers in A and AA...... I was going to keep him until he was 40 just to see how many he could hit..... The AI mercifully had him retire after 13 years in A/AA....

Cody "Country" Baehr was the #1 draft pick by Kansas City in 1972. He was the 7th pick overall for the season. 3 months later he was traded to Minnesota.

On October 30, 1972, here is what his ratings looked like:

Ratings: CON=55 GAP=39 POW=29 EYE=44 K'S=59 | Talent: CON=81 GAP=49 POW=61 EYE=74 K'S=74

In 1972 he hit .248 in AA ball. In 1973, after hitting .354 in AAA ball, he got the call up and hit .341 in 30 games. Over his 16 year career he played SS and 2B. His clutch rating was indeed GREAT and in 1972 he was a 5 star player. This dropped to 4 star in 73 and 74, then back up to a 5 star in 1975. He then dropped to a 1.0 star rating in 1976.

After hitting .341 his first season, he never was above the .253 he had in his 2nd season. He won the Medoza Award in 1981 (.200), 1985 (.162) and 1986 (.169).

Career earnings of $24,920,000, with his proudest moment was when he signed a 5 year deal in 1981 for 3.6 million per year with Punta Gorda. He did make the leaderboard 3 times, 1979, 1981 and 1982 with walks. 112, 103 and 121 walks.

With 1099 lifetime hits, he had 980 lifetime walks. 7 times in his career he had more walks than he did hits for the season. Lifetime .210 average, .340 OBP and .342 SLG.

From 1977 to 1985 his EYE rating was 100.

His contact rating was not that bad, but he just could not hit. The summary is the computer managers look at the ratings and do not care what the guy is actually doing in the game.

Amazing stuff..... never really looked at the terrible players in my catobase. Now I will be looking for stuff like this. There are a lot of great players in the game, but now I think it is more fun watching the DUDS!!!! Interesting! Your player did not suck as bad as mine, but he sure was well below what should have been. At least my guy played up to his potential, just that he never really had the talent.......

I have always thought the AI was too interested in the ratings and did not drop players quickly enough. IRL, players that do not make seem to fade out and never come back. In the game they take longer to get to that point and then just seem to hang on forever. IRL a lot of ball players leave the minors at ages 25-30 who realize they are not going to make it. In the game these guys seem to hang on and many do have ML experience after age 30. It is funny on how many 30 year old and over "rookies" come up....

.321 lifetime OBP....the Mets and Cubs could have used someone that good.

Good speed, and probably pretty good defense.

Another player helped by his peripheral stats.

Yeah, great speed.... good stolen base ratio.... good home run production. walks a lot and looking at his DWS he averaged 4.1 WS per season averaged to 162 game. so he was decent. His OPS was not terrible. I still think that batting average should account for something, though because you can't steal 1st base.....

I still think the guy was not a good player, I would not of had him on any of my rosters but he could have been a good defensive replacement. The guy reminds me more of a clone of Rob Deer/Omar Moreno wrapped into one players.........

I have a guy that stole 3 bases in 29 attempts, so I looked further into it...

His Running speed is 71. (Ok, he can run from 2nd to 3rd pretty well)
His Stealing Ability is 8. (OK, that explains him getting caught a lot)
His Baserunning Instrincts is 1. (ONE!! OK, that explains everyone running out of the dugout pointing to 1B when he hits the ball!!!)
