80s Historical League with full, real minors has several openings

Ultra Reality Baseball, a historical career league is about to move to 1984, its second season.

URB strives to mirror the real-life structure of major league baseball in the 1980s - this means using a June draft of amateurs with all foreign (non US or Canada) born players coming in as free agents.

URB started the 1983 season with every player active in 1983 - meaning that in addition to the 1983 big leaguers, any minor leaguer active in 1983 who had previously been, or would be in the future, a big leaguer, was in the database. This was done using their real minor league stats, adjusted using MLEs (Minor League Equivalencies, a process created by Bill James).

This process will continue in future seasons, as any player drafted who played in the big leagues will be rated using their combined minor and major league career - as well as any amateur free agents using the same process.

The 1984 Amateur draft will include such future stars as Mark McGwire, Tom Glavine, Greg Maddux, and many, many more - all correctly rated for the 1984 season, reflecting their 1984 minor league stats.

The available teams are the Cleveland Indians, Seattle Mariners and Toronto Blue Jays. All have some upside - though the Jays are on the verge of being a contender, while the Indians and Mariners need a steady hand to manage their farm systems in building a winner.

If you are interested in being a part of URB, please email the commish using the link on the league's homepage, or send me a Private message here on the forum.

Thanks for reading,
Joe

Interesting League.
Do you have a league file that has no trades or anything? I'd love to use it for solo Play. My biggest knock on historical databases is that they normally just have a few minor leaguers per team

I think so - I would have to look through my archives. Of course, it'd really only be good for 1983, as the rookies coming in from 1984 on would still need to be rated. I am building a Lahman database with MLE'd minor league stats, but on a year-by-year basis as guys come in to URB, so it won't be finished anytime soon.

The Mariners and Blue Jays are filled. The Indians remain available and also now available are the Astros, Brewers and Giants (whose GMs had not submitted lineups in over three months).

You could join the league, running one of the open teams and get the finished Lahman db when it's ready.

The Baltimore Orioles have just come open. This is a very solid team which won the AL East in 1983.

We are about to begin free agency for the 1984 season.
