Post Pedro's amazing streak

talk about dominance. dating back to 2002 (its currently the year 2004) Pedro Martinez has won an unprecedented 30 straight games without seeing a defeat. in fact, he's won 51 of the last 52 games he's had a decision in.

lets break it down.

in 2002 he lost the first game of the season. then went on to win 21 straight games before running into my Yankee team. We ended his streak, but he would go on to win 3 more to finish 24-2 for the season.

2003 was pure dominance. not only did his ERA finish almost a full run lower than the previous year (1.55 compared to 2.33), but he struck out 320 in 257 innings and went 22-0.

so far in 2004, he signed with San Diego to anchor the best young staff in my league for 12,240,000 a year for 6 years. He has gone 5-0 with a 1.60 ERA and already has Three 10+ K games.

so he has won 30 straight games (and counting) and 51 of the last 52. He is now 183-61 for his career. amazing!

anyone see anything close to this???

One of my SP's won SIX STRAIGHT cy young awards. That was just flat-out amazing. He prob won't even finish with 200 career wins due to his late start (age 26 or something). But man, I'm putting him in the HoF first chance I get. Incredible.

Funny how things work...

In 2004, Pedro signed with the Pads in my league as well. I bid on him for a joyus Montreal homecoming, but it wasn't to happen.

He's won the Cy Young the last two years with records of 18-2 (1.62 ERA) and 19-4 (1.69 ERA).

I am in 2007 and Pedro has won the CY YOUNG award every year...very frustrating for my good pitchers who have no chance.

well there you have it, one of the greatest runs in baseball is over. Pedro Martinez gave up 3 runs to the SF Giants and lost his first game in 31 straight decisions. Amazingly, the Giants are the worst team in the NL West and some how found a way to beat the best pitcher in baseball.

---------------

About San Diego...i've noticed some trends in some other leagues people have had. i think it just has to do with opportunity and development. San Diego is winning more games every year and this year (2004) decided to up payroll by about 10 million dollars. with more fans coming to the games (interest is at 80 now) and a very good young staff (minus the career ending injury to Adam Eaton) thats only getting better, the Padres have a future in my league. So maybe Pedro noticed that and signed on. Ofcourse, he took 240,000 more dollars to sign with San Diego over my 2 time Champion Yankees, but ya know thats ight. i'm kool...

---------------

Pedro is pretty dominating in the game. He has won every AL Cy Young so far and looks like he's on his way to dominating the NL.

Good thing for guys like Seattle's Pineiro (who's becoming a monster) and the White Sox' Bud Smith (who is almost unstoppable now) and ofcourse Roy Oswalt has got to be thankin me for moving the Astros to the AL West.

Yeah, the Pads have won their division the last two years (2004 & 2005), lost the series in 2004 and I knocked them out in the NLCS in 2005. They're struggling this year thought, only .500 through 38 games.

Pedro was a great pitcher for me in the BTTF until 2005:
SP Pedro Martinez, BOSTON RED SOX

As you can see by his 2005 statistics, he really dropped off compared to the rest of his career:

YEAR ERA W L S G IP ER BB K TEAMS
2005: 3.61 6 9 0 23 152.0 61 44 137 BOS
2004: 1.71 16 3 0 24 189.0 36 14 186 BOS
2003: 2.29 21 5 0 32 235.2 60 29 252 BOS,AL
2002: 2.25 19 4 0 29 219.2 55 25 240 BOS,AL

He's a free agent at the end of the next season for me...so I have some decisions to make

it seems to me Killer that those two injuries Pedro suffered really hurt him. thats a shame, but kinda like the real thing...dont ya think? i wonder if Pedro will ever be as dominant. he is still one of the best pitchers but def not the best anymore.

oh well thats why i have OOTP4. i can see Pedro dominate the NL for the rest of his career (with no injuries hopefully)

edit: actually just noticed that those injuries were in august and October. why were there games in October 5? or was that in the playoffs???

i would like to see how he does in 2006.
