Bulls trade Eddy Curry

It's on ESPN, Chicago Tribune, and a ton of other places...
Trade is...

C Eddy Curry
PF Antonio Davis

for

F Tim Thomas
PF Mike Sweetney
G Jermaine Jackson
Knicks 1st rounder
Two 2nd rounders
One 2nd rounder could potentially turn into a 1st if Eddy Curry plays well enough. (San Antonio's 1st)

Also some rumors have it that David Lee could be part of the deal, not sure.

As a Bulls fan, I love it...great trade for the bulls. This could become a bust, or a big time deal for the Knicks. It won't be finalized till tomorrow or later this afternoon.

Isiah may have given up too much young tallent (picks, Sweentey, possibly David Lee, etc...)

Go BULLS!

The question would be, how will the Knicks handle the issue of Curry's heart problems.

Paxson has said he understands the privacy issues involved but insisted the Bulls do not have an ulterior motive; they simply do not want a situation similar to those of former Boston Celtics guard Reggie Lewis or Loyola Marymount star Hank Gathers -- players with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy who collapsed and died.

Paxson, speaking during the team's media day, told reporters the Bulls had offered Curry $400,000 annually for the next 50 years if he failed the genetic test.

"So he would have an above-average lifestyle that would put him in a position that most other people aren't in," Paxson said. "Our intention through that whole process was to show him that we did care about him and that we were concerned about his well-being."

What if the Knicks let Curry play without the DNA test to clear him, and Curry died?

As a very touch and go Knicks fan, I find myself liking them less and less in the Isiah Thomas era. Do they actually think they are going to contend this year?

Also the Knicks are going to release Antonio Davis and he will resign with the bulls.

Yeah. For some reason Isaiah thinks it's a good idea to trade away expiring contract's like Tim Thomas'. He just thinks that churning the roster is a good thing, I guess.

And trading away all our first round picks when we are in the lottery. WTF?

I know, rooting for the Knicks has become painful. Fortunately, I'm not as emotionally involved with them as I am with my other NY teams.

let's look at the Bulls now!

Chicago Bulls

C Position:
Tyson Chandler/O-Harrington/Antonio Davis
PF Position: Michael Sweetney/Darius Songollia/Andres Noccioni
SF Position: Luol Deng/Tim Thomas/Andres Noccioni
SG Position: Ben Gordon/Eddie Basden/Eric Pike*
PG Position: Kirk Hinrich/Chris Duhon/Jannero Pargo

*=nickname

That's a team that's making the playoffs around the 5 slot.

Chandler: 12 ppg/12 rpg
Sweetney: 9 ppg/9 rpg
Deng: 13 ppg/6 rpg
Gordon: 18 ppg/3 apg
Hinrich: 16 ppg/7 apg
Thomas: 12 ppg/5 rpg
Songollia: 9 ppg/5 rpg
Noccioni: 7 ppg/7 rpg

That's not too much to ask for from the Bulls? They'll be able to score 92-95 ppg and with that defense they'll easily make the playoffs.

The draft picks will just add on to the sucess of the bulls.

you can tell I'm excited!

Sweetney's undersized and hasn't shown he can carry those numbers over an entire season. He's got the talent, for sure, but he's unproven.

I think the Bulls immediate future is going to depend on Ben Gordon. If he proves to be a real and consistent scorer they can be in the upper echelon of the East. If he stays at the level he was at last year they're not going to get much further than that. They've got plenty of good parts, but no one else really has the potential to stand out and put the team on their shoulders.

I don't think it is a bad deal for either side. But Chicago is getting the better part with the draft picks that were included.

Chicago is getting the better deal since they're getting less risk (Curry's health) and get a decent player in Sweetney who is signed for an affordable amount ($2MM+) through 07/08 (Qualifying offer).

Davis and Thomas make the same amount and are both in the last years of their deals and cancel each other out. I wonder how much the buyout of Davis' contract will cost? It can't be too much though. I don't see much point in bringing Davis back to the Bulls, but might as well if they want him. His resigning with the Bulls will most likely wind up being for an amount similar to what he is bought out for.

I can't comment on Jackson since I do not know him.

Luol Deng does. Everyone says the Bulls would've won the Wizards series with Curry. I'm not so sure. But I am sure that they would've won with Luol Deng.

From a pure basketball standpoint this is a great trade for the Bulls. When you consider everything else involved, I have a feeling this will be the last trade Paxson makes with Isiah Thomas. David Stern just won't let a major market team get so completely ripped off year after year. The Crawford trade last year was great for the Bulls and it's not even close to as good as this one.

Isiah seems like that guy in online leagues who constantly trades all his 5 star AAA prospects for 2.5 star guys who had a career year, signs them to big contracts, and then wonders why it never works out for him.

Meh, I used to be a huge fan of Eric Williams right after the Celtics drafted him too. Nasty defender, decent touch. Not the kind of player that is going to be the leader on a team that contends for a title. Deng is better, but do you really see him as having the potential to be a top 15 player in the NBA?

I'm not sure. Maybe not. But I do think he can carry a team for a series or two. I'm not saying he would've made them NBA Champions, but he would've given them enough to beat the Wizards.

I do think if he can stay healthy he can be better than Gordon. He's not quite the shooter Gordon is, but he has other skills Ben just doesn't have right now.

I guess I'm just having trouble envisioning a wing guy having that much of an impact without much ability to score, and I'm not sure Deng ever consistently gets past the 18 ppg mark or somewhere around there.
