TS Game: Who am I?

Ok, so a new sports trivia game that I am going to give a try around these parts. I've been thinking on how to pull it off and be fair - and keep it going to keep track of every player's score.

So, this is the way it will work:

I will start with a clue - written up like a partial bio or something.

The trivia involves baseball players/personalities only.

People will guess.

-After five or more incorrect guesses (depending on frequency of guesses), I will give another clue.

-If someone guesses correct after a round, that person will be awarded the max amount of points for that round. Each person who agrees with the correct answer (until I close the question - again, depending on frequency) will get points; but each person agreeing gets steadily lower points (-2). These points are culmulative for each round.

For instance: A correct guess after the first entry by me will be awarded 20 points. The next person to agree with that entry will be awarded 18 points - the next 16, 14, et al. The min points that can be awarded is 1 - which is awarded to every person after the 2 score.

Point System
Round 1 - 20 (and down)
Round 2 - 15 "
Round 3 - 10 "
Round 4 - 5 "

Hints will be mostly anecdotal with some stats based as well.

At the end of the match - I'm assuming 5 games (again, depending on frequency of guesses and popularity - or lack of) - the point leader will be given one free book. The book is about baseball, but I will not tell you what one - for it is a reference source for this game.

***It should be mentioned that some of the hints might allude to more than one player. In the first game, "I caught Satchel Page and hit a grandslam off Dizzy Dean," could have been another player besides Gibson - but part of the game is the guess who this person is. The hints will become more specific as they go.

Is the answer Randy Jones of the San Diego Padres?

EDIT: Dang it. You posted your first clue already. Now I just look stupid(er).

I'm reading, I just didn't know the answer. Didn't want to guess and lose 5 points.

**Next Round**

I played with Babe Ruth, but at that time people may have been more likely to think of me when speaking of Ty Cobb. I played for both Boston teams.

RULE CHANGE: No minus points - only a reduction in points for agreeing with an answer already on the table. So guess away!

**Check the current hint for an expansion on the player bio.

Along with Ty Cobb, I might also be remembered when folks talked about Wee Wille Keeler and later, even Pete Rose. My greatest accomplishment took place while not in the Majors.
