Anyone have or can make a Irish based name and origin file setup

Has anyone ever done anything like this at all? If so, where coudl I get it? If not, does anyone have the talent to know what names would be authentic and not just have everyone start with O'*****.

Feedback would be greatly appriciated

I have an Irish first names list but not a separate Irish surnames list. If you happen to find one it would be easy to put a set together.

Don't we have an Irishman or two on this board? Ask them where to find an Irish surnames list.

Oh, and FYI, most Irish surnames don't start with O'.

ya I know, I was trying to say that I was looking for a realistic one and not have someone submit a list like that.

as for if we have anyone here from the Emerald Isle, i've never seen one in my travels, but they might not post that much.

Again, any help would be appriciated

I found one a while back - these are traditional names. The origins may need to be shortened also. 19 characters is the max and I have some locations greater than 20...... This set was not designed to create a 30 team league of 50 players with unique names, but I used this to have a few (8%) of my Euro solo league come from Ireland.....

These files are originator files but can also be converted to regular ootp names files with a little work. I Just prefer the originator......

I downloaded that file set but the last names in it appear to have no frequencies set.

This was done because most of the names would be the o'*** type names. Kind of like the chinese file, IRL 70% of the population actually share 1 of the top 3 most common surnames.

This was done by design, I did not want a bunch of the same names being created. Again this was created to get a group of 80-100 players into my Euro League. With a very good listing of first names this will create a lot of names through the originator. Modify to your liking..... None of the names list out there really have an accurate frequency that mimics real life. If that were the case the US list would have way more Smiths, Jones, Johnsons etc....and very few other names.... I could not imagine a league where 17% of the names were one of the most common surnames in the US. Did a analysis of us names a while back if you used Smith as the base and had it listed 100, then Johnson 81, Williams 69, Jones 62 etc by the time you reach the frequency of 1 you would only have 1100 surnames and most being from the top 20.... This is out of 88,000 Plus US surnames. I put more names into my list to get a diverse list, with less frequency....

Again my lists were used for my own usage - use as you wish, alter them to your liking. The names are real names - The frequency can be set by your preferences.....

canadiancreed,

<o =""></o>Attached are two Irish name files (family and given-male) created from some 1901 Irish census records. You may have to shorten some of the names due to character limitations. Also, middle names and initials have been kept.

Code:
Top Five Male Given Names
John 15.7%
James 11.4%
William 9.3%
Patrick 7.3%
Thomas 7.2%

Top Five Family Names
Murphy 1.0%
Ryan 1.0%
McNamara	0.9%
McCarthy	0.7%
O'Brien 0.7%
If this is for the Dominion of Canada Baseball Association, this site may be of some use for names.

I have an Irish names and origins file up on OOTP Dev, for use with Originator. It has tons and tons of names and something like the 60 largest cities/towns in Ireland (no Northern Ireland cities, though, since that's still techically the UK.)

The names should generate nicely. I experimented, and made sure to include some rare and old style Gaelic names, which should give you a nice variety.

It's called Spindel's France, Germany, Ireland, & Spain Originator Files and you can find it at the bottom of the utilities page.

Also, just a note, but OOTP doesn't seem to be able to deal with some of the names like "Ó Coilean" and thus you get something like this in the player listing:

Z
Zatch, Jackie
Zed, Quincy
Z.. etc.

Ó
Ó Coilean, Rube
Ó Cojomak, Joe

See an example of the names it will create in my UBF league

You can see what I mean at the bottom of the page. Honestly, I don't min, and I think the old style names are being used pretty rarely, so it shold only come up once in a great while anyway..

Anyway, check it out, and if it helps you out, great.

Yeah. Technically it's a different ASCII character and OOTP doesn't really have good support for non-AtoZ letters. I brought it up to Markus after I finished my Scandinavian name files.
