Runtime Errors in 6.5

I have set up a custom league and while simulating 25 years to get a nice history going, I keep getting runtime errors that close out the game.

Explain a little bit more the issue: when does the crash occur, what is the game doing at the moment, etc. Otherwise it's difficult to try to guess and help.

I'm not sure when the error occurs, as I am simulating 25 years, and have the game minimized in my taskbar while it is doing that, but every once in a while, sometimes once a simmed year, sometimes more often I get a MS Visusal c++ runtime error message. The error message says:

Runtime Error!
Program: ...mfiles\out of the park developments\ootp 6.5\ootp65.exe

This application has requested Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

Thanks again for the help....

For what it's worth, I was getting runtime errors in 6.12. I determind the cause to actually be a bad sector on the hard disk (that one of the OOTP modules must've been written on). I performed a chkdsk in Win XP, defragged my hard drive and was good to go.

I am also getting the Runtime Errors:

Runtime Error!
Program: ...mfiles\out of the park developments\ootp 6.5\ootp65.exe

This application has requested Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

All I am doing is simming the entire year without stopping before the playoffs, the game is minimized on my taskbar. After this message I hit OK and restart the game and most of the time ALL my player stats are GONE but the standings still show there have been games played. I have defragged my hard drive but these messages still appear.

Please help

I just got a C++ runtime error. But when i go to load the league again it does not work. All that appears to be saved is the teams records. Like say i'm 50-35.

Everything else is gone. Stats, schedule, all of it. If I try to access any of it, it crashes. I have the league backed up from last season but I'd rather not start the season over, especially if it's just gonna do the same thing again.

When the game saves the league everytime you exit, where does it save it to? Is there a way i can get it back?

When you get this Run Time Error and lose everything you cannot get it back. I uninstalled the game and reinstalled it and was able to finish 2 full seasons without any issues, but 75 games into my 3rd season it happened once again and I lost almost all my stats. I just finished the year out and just am going to live with it. I cannot figure out what else to do since I do not play with any sounds or automated menus.

Thanks for the reply. I don't have to uninstall the game. I still have my league folder from before i converted to 6.5. But I will lose the 100 or so games i've played.

I'm gonna try something first to see if I can recover it. If it works, i'll report back. If not, then I won't

Any word on what may be causing this? Nothing more frustrating then simming 3 or 4 seasons and then in the middle of the next season the runtime error pops up and you lose stats. I have uninstalled the game and reinstalled it and still it crashes. Please help!!!

Are any of you running other programs in the background when this happens? I'm trying to find something common that might give us some insight into why this is happening.

The only thing that I can think of that is running at the same time is my anti-virus and AIM. I turned off my screen saver but this does happen when I sim month by month, not just "x" number of years.

Thanks for the quick response.

Some folks have reported having issues if the anti-virus is active when the game is open so you might try that.

Any others reporting this issue please let us know what programs you are running as well.

Well, I'll give you my opinion even though most of you won't like it. This opionion is based on being in the business for 20 years and being 3rd level support for 12,000 workstation here where I work.

First off, I have been running OOTP since version 3, sometimes on 3 machines at once - and only had this problem occur on one machine with version 4. Solution? I reformatted the machine and rebuilt it, starting with Windows and the problem went away.

the issue is that the Windows registry, over time, gets larger and larger. Windows is also not good at housekeeping, so when you install a game then delete it - many times the registry entries stay - assuredly if you don't use the Windows uninstall. Over time, the registry gets larger, and too many entries in it lead to deadends - that's when some programs begin to crash.

OOTP is a bit more suseptable in that it's usually one of the first ones to see a problem. but the real solution is to probably rebuild your machine.

PS: There's a chance that you have another program running that is conflicting with OOTP or trying to share a memory location, so I'd try turning everything else off first.

Just an update on my situation. I have closed my antivirus and AIM and anything else that is running while I sim and so far the problem has not come back. i have simmed 15 years without a Runtime Error (knock on wood). That seemed to fix the problem.
