Promotion/Demotion

Generally, what stats does a player of yours have before you promote them/demote them (ERA for Pitchers/AVG for Hitters) in order to ensure the best stats for the player?

Thank you in advance

If you're going by stats, I suggest doing a data pull on your league and get the A, AA, AAA, and major league average figures, then use those as a basic guide-post (realizing they're probably a little weird if the entire organizational level isn't full). If your guy's stats are basically better than league/org level average, then consider a promotion.

It's one theory, anyway.

Usually I'll CONSIDER promoting hitters if they have an OPS above .900 anywhere after 50+ games, or if I just have a itch about them I might promote sooner or keep them at the level if I feel they aren't ready.

For pitchers I'll promote them if their WHIP is below 1.10, have a good K:BB ratio (3:1 or better) and a good solid ERA (3.50 or lower) after 10 starts or 20games. Again with hitters I might leave them at their current level or I might promote, if I feel they are ready.

Also when I promote young players (less than 24) through my organization I'll only promote or demote them once and keep them at the level for a full year of play before considering another promotion.

On demoting players I usually listen to my scout if he says someone isn't ready or if I see someone really having a hard time at a level I'll go in and demote him

I also use the .900 OPS as a bench mark for offensive promotion. With pitchers, strong K/BB, K/9 and a low hit rate all are important when considering a promotion. However, when a player is getting older I may force him to move up a level even if his performance doesn't warrent it. I don't want 24 year olds at Single-A.
