Change of pace?
The MBLS is preparing to switch from OOTP 5 to OOTP 6 to start the 2005 season and is looking to fill some ownership holes.
Currently unowned are the Bethesda Rebels, Bronx Brawlers, and Phoenix Scorpions. Established in 1993, the league has a rich history and a strong core of involved, active owners who gather each spring with their sites set on the ultimate prize, the Stengel Cup. Unlike many OOTP leagues, the MBLS season runs at the same pace and with a similar schedule as a real-life baseball season. A pace and schedule like this require patience, but allow for the races and storylines to build in a more realistic and meaningful manner. If you're interested in joining, visit the MBLS Welcome page and follow the instructions you find there. If you have any questions, drop me an email. I must say, your site is very professional and well done. Very nice job.
But I reiterate my question: How does one stay interested in such a slow sim speed? Myself I would go crazy. |

Interest is not a problem at all (at least, not for me).
The pace of a league like this allows the excitement of a pennant race to build like it does in real life. It does force you to be patient when rebuilding, but it's a much more rewarding process because of it. In a league like this, you also have the ability to do a lot of things that you can't do in fast-paced leagues. Owners can play out their own home games (which we do), two owners can get together in a head-to-head matchup and play out a game (which happens some in the regular season and almost always in the playoffs), or you can broadcast a game-of-the-week for the whole league to watch (which we've done a couple of times). As I've said before, I've tried some of the faster-paced OOTP leagues, but I just haven't found them to be as fun or exciting as the MBLS. |

Sounds an interesting league, one question though is do you have to play a certain amount of h2h games as being on a totally different time zone (europe), I could play a few but not a massive amount.

Nope, there's no specific requirement that you play any games out h2h.
It's just an option provided if any owners are interested. Only a few folks do this in the regular season, but in the postseason, just about everyone does (if you let the computer control your team in the playoffs, you're probably at a disadvantage). Later, jamey |

Slow Sims make Decisions more Realistic
I manage a team in the league and have found decision making to be more realistic than in faster leagues. As most leagues enter June many managers who don't like their chances of winning their division start offering veterans for picks and prospects, and start a rebuilding process. Three or four years worth of sims to rebuild a team isn't a long time. In the MBLS it is a long time. Deciding to radically rebuild is a tough decision. I think that's more like real baseball.
Plus every trade and draft decision carries much more weight than in faster leagues. You're literally stuck with the results of bad decisions for a long time. GM's who like fast, wholesale trading (again, not realistic) won't like this league. My team in the MBLS (Troy Haymakers) is very bad. I know about the patience required to rebuild. I'm about to take my '05 lumps. If you like realism grab a team and help beat up the Haymakers.

Actually, the right address is questionnaire@mbls.org. But if that one isn't working for you, email commish@mbls.org or you can just email me.
Regarding open teams, the three listed above are still unowned as far as I know. There may be a couple of more teams depending on if any current owners decide they don't want to purchase OOTP 6. The deadline is tomorrow, so we should have a complete list at that point. Later, jamey |

I am also quite interested in joining an online league, but I've never participated in one before and am not quite sure how it works. I've been playing OOTP for over 3 years, but only solo leagues. I wouldn't want to be a burden to you guys, but I am curious as to how exactly it works?
Thanks, Zeke |

Jamey,
I would be interested in taking over the Stars, at work right now, but will apply later when I get home, or at least send you an e-mail. Unless you don't want some nOOb whos never played in an online league, in which case I understand completely. |

To anyone who is interested this is the best league i have ever been in. You might think the slower pace would get boring but you really get to know your team this way. You can control different matchups make sure a guy sits when he is tired, put a hot bat into the lineup, and not worry about an injury killing your lineup for a week. You can play out your home games which can give you a bit of an advantage (homefield advantage). Overall the owners are great and the commishes are great. I would recommend to anyone that likes playing game by game in solo OOTP take a look. It really requires less time when you only need to make minor changes day to day.

The LA Stars are still available. We're about to start FA bidding, so if you want to get on board, now is a great time...

The MBLS has just completed day 1 of free agency. The LA Stars are still available if anyone wants to jump on board. The Stars finished just two games out in their division, so they're ready to compete if they can land a couple of key free agents...

We still can't seem to find a suitable owner for the Stars. We're in the 6th day of free agency, so there's plenty of talent still out there if someone wants to come in and make some quick improvements to an already-contending team...
