TV contracts

Can someone tell how how TV contracts are determined? I'm thinking it has something to do with fan base/ fan interest.

I don't believe anyone knows the specific formula involved. In my experience, market size is the primary determinant with fan loyalty also playing a part.

I think a good idea is if they implemented Negotiations in TV contracts, and each station would fight over your contract. I would like to see that you could have a cable contact.....lets say with Fox Sports, ESPN and then a local contact with 1-2 stations. And have all the stations listed and how many games are played and how much revenue your team receives.

Of course the stations would have to be made up...but i think i get my point across.

Well there are in fact two TV revenues a ballclub could have....the first would be the national TV contract such as mentioned in this thread, where the revenue is split equally among all the teams... this is what I always thought the OOTP contract represented, which is why we as team owners have no control over this... the game is simply increasing the amount at ******* intervals to reflect the renegotiatiated MLB-National TV contract...this contract is not determined by any individual team loyalty or market size issues....however, there is a second form of TV revenue that individual teams can do and that is along the YES and NESN line, where teams create their own network.....we'll need to address these issues if they are not in OOTP6 when the OOTP7 forum opens...investing money into Team TV networks (if the team can afford it) and radio contracts should be added if they aren't already in 6 that is....

Ugh. Personally I like financials as far as seeing teams generate revenue which can then be spent on free agents. That much is fun.

But I'd really hate to see that whole model get TOO complicated. If things go that direction, I'd just turn off financials and handle it outside of the game.

I don't think your premise on national TV contracts is correct because not every team shares the same amount. I would have thought this was true, but it's not.

Yeah, the national contracts can be a different amount for each team. When I start a league, I usually edit them to make them the same, and have the contract expire in 0 years. This keeps them from changing until I edit the amount again.
