I second the motion for a 2D option
I've been amazed at the OOTP series since discovering it twenty years ago. Have not bought every version, nor ever even tried Perfect Team beyond a quick look, no interest. It seems to me that even though there clearly is a lot of improvement on the 3D player animations, the original problems remain: a lot of plays look like what I imagine people saw at the 1919 World Series: a fielder holds the ball for a second or two in a spot where an immediate throw is required, a runner with good ratings turns into Ron Cey somehow and is thrown out at the plate, a double play that the text claims is broken up by the runner's slide into second is several seconds after the fielder decides to quit on the play. And I understand: the animations are following the play result produced by the game engine and timing is difficult. I recognize that the animations and PT are the growth areas for sales. But when your starting pitcher gives up seven runs in the first inning on a series of plays where the animation looks like you have the Black Sox earning their money in the field, it's just too much. We need to have an option to go back to the old way, text-only and a screen of information rather than ballpark and facial details. Moving the text box from the bottom of the screen to a more prominent place in this new view must be a priority. The folks who wrote the play-by-play text, with all of the variations and extras, did such a great job that it is easier to imagine the play from the text than it is to watch it from the animations, which often make me wonder if my fielders hate me and are looking for revenge for something I don't even know I did. The game remains good, but the animations in Go need to have an alternative other than hitting "play to end of week," which is what I often end up doing after watching my carefully-selected players do needless things in the field on crucial plays.
