new BABIP rating on player profile
First I'm glad to see that it can be turned off if you don't want to use it but I do I just want to get a better understanding about how to interpret it.
So right now I use BABIP as a stat to see if a player seems to be getting lucky or unlucky. For example if a player normally hits .250 and has a .300 BABIP but this season is hitting .290 and has a .350 BABIP I know that could be because of luck. Same good for pitching if a player off a sudden has a lower BABIP it could mean they are getting lucky. I don't know how to interpret as a main stat. Does it just mean a better BABIP rating just means they are likely to have a higher BABIP and thus likely a higher batting average? Is it as simple as that? |

Yeah, that is pretty much it.
You can still use the stat separately to tell whether they are getting lucky/unlucky, but basically every player has a different baseline for that (particularly hitters). |

For hitters, BABIP is a skill like any other. For pitchers, it is not (or if it is, the signal to noise ratio around it makes it very hard to see).
Technically, you can use every rating to determine if a player is getting lucky or not. Last edited by RonCo; 03-14-2024 at 09:13 AM. |
