Player wants to renegotiate, but isn't in the mood?

I tried to negotiate an extension with a player, he refused and stop negotiating. Weeks later I get a PM that he loves playing for the team and wants to discuss an extension.

However, whenever I try to extend he still says he's not interested in discussing this right now, he's not in the right mood?

Weeks later, same thing. Is this a bug? Is there a way to get around it?

Is it during the season? I just take it as, like some players now, once the season starts they don't want to negotiate. But yes, it is weird for them to come back to you as the season is winding down and ask for an extension. I look at it as a friendly reminder from the game. You got a guy that is going to be a free agent.
