Post OOTP Manual Thread

Any questions / comments / problems with the online manual? Post away!

(And yes, a somewhat-printable version is in the works, but I don't have a date yet, sorry!)

I'm finding it extremely helpful. I much prefer using that as opposed to having a box pop up in the game and covering the screen I'm trying to look at. The printable, fully searchable, one document version will make this even better.

undocumented feature\option

Steve searched the manual and as far as I can tell this feature is not talked about anywhere.

http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...ue-totals.html

Is this a working feature? If so what exactly does it do?

Another one along the same lines as the above.

In league creation under Rules>Amateur Draft Rules there is an option for 'Use pre-defined draft value for AI'.

The manual doesn't appear to give any hint as to what this option does.

Rand: This is straight from veteran OOTPer and resident database genius Garlon (and Spritze, don't forget Spritze) whose database is the neutralized stats database in the game. He says that he and Spritze performed a whole bunch of calculations and tests that result in "perfect" AI draft logic. Long story short: it boosts the ability of the AI in the Amateur Draft, which is more challenging and thus a good thing if you're interested in a better draft. As always with this game, you can leave it off if you so desire. Is it only available with the neutralized stats database? My guess is no, that it would be available for all game scenarios, but it's just that: a guess. You'd have to ask Garlon about that.

Thanks folks, I'll try to get this stuff updated as soon as possible. Waiting for some more detail from "the man" to make sure I get it right!

Keep em coming, even typos and such.

When I open the ootp10_manual installed inside the OOTP10 folder, it contains 2007 on the title page and tells me I can download it at the following invalid link:

http://www.ootpbaseball.net/manual.php

Is the manual currently available for download anywhere?

It's not clear from the manual whether the scouting system is functional if you have finances turned off. I assume it isn't, since you can't set a budget for scouting if the finances are off, but it might be a good thing to clear up.

In Ratings Overview, under Rating colors the statement "So, in the graphic above, we can see that this hitter has "good" Contact Potential, but "awful" Home Run Power." is wrong regarding "awful" since it is green in the example.

Trading Deadline

On the page about the Trading Deadline, it specifies that trades between the trading deadline and the end of the regular season are forbidden. I am fairly certain that is no longer true, having received (and blocked) trades after the trade deadline.

Not for download, no. I'm not even sure how you're accessing the manual, it must be some very old remnant! If you want to access the manual without going online, just open OOTP and hit F1!

It says that the pitches a pitcher throws are purely cosmetic. I thought with this version, that is not the case. Could be wrong though.

Well, that remnant's in the OOTP10 Program Files folder. There's a file called ootp10_manual there. Guess it shouldn't be there.

I love this game alot, but I don't understand why the manual is not available for download. I would love to be able to download it, print it and read it from a paper.

A few reasons:

1. We have limited resources to work on something that would make it available for download, and this just isn't a high priority.

2. At this point, the online manual would be over 700 printed pages.

I understand the desire, but it just cannot be high on our list of priorities. I'm sorry!

Scouting does work without finances, but essentially all teams are considered to have identical scouting budgets and allocations of resources.

Yep, I've asked it to be removed from the installer.
