Whats an average amount of players per team in your league

OK when thinkign of how many players a team should have, I figured i'd ask everyone out there that are doing leagues themselves. what a good number for how many players a team should have, both in the majors and minors?

I'd imagine a lot of this depends upon the length of the draft and creaton modifiers, but in general I like to fill my minors up all the way. A lot of guys get wasted due to lack of playing time, but most of those who suffer are just projects who would otherwise be potentially stocking some other team's minors and potentially helping them in the future.

I find it somewhat tricky to get a good balance going. With not enough guys in the minors, minor league stats tend to be less realistic. Players also seem to make it to the majors later than they might normally (not sure if this is true, just a perception).

With too many guys, you'll sometimes see four- or five-blue star players not getting playing time because the AI doesn't handle that very well. Even at minor league level, it plays the guys with the highest ratings, not necessarily the highest talents, so big prospects sometimes get no playing time and never develop. Also, AAA seems to get filled up with washed up veterans who should have retired already. They end up getting playing time that should go to young guys.

That's really hard to do if you have AI teams or you let the AI control your minors. AA always ends up looking kind of skimpy, while AAA has a couple of starters who never get in any games. I find that it's hard to keep AA stocked well.

Additionally problematic is that the AI tends to react to the current evaluation settings. While I made sure all of the minor were stocked in each position with an Independent League (Fill Minors) one category at a time, the result was a distribution of app. 25 per level. Once the season began, all AI teams made a sudden shift promoting the bulk of the players to AAA and leaving both AA and A with ghost players. I'm thinking this may be a combination of ratings evaluations, AI unseen preferences, and a backhanded way of balancing development and stat production at those levels.

My intent, for my team, is to attempt to keep all positions filled in the minors with 25 on my active and 38-40 on my 40 man.

For some reason, I get a lot of crap players playing in AAA. I'm talking one or 2 blue star guys who should obviously be at another level (I let the computer handle my minors). I think right now, I have 5 or 6 catchers in AAA. Only 2 of which should be there.

The AI will never do it this way and I took cc's question as a hypothetical. That's how I like my minors set up and I adhere to it, even though the AI keeps telling me to raise this guy and drop that guy.

I also find that AA gets real thin if I adhere to what the emails say I should do. It's not as bad with a preseason draft because you can train some guys to move up into AA but with June 1 draft it can get really bad with a bunch of guys suddenly in A.

So some guys just end up as place holders in my team's minors in my solo leagues. For instance, if I have a 25 yr old guy in A ball, he'll go wherever I need him to fill out the numbers, whether it be A, AA or AAA.

I usually like to have my 25 man, 15 or so players in each level in the minors. It's more important for me to have guys in AAA though as emergency callups, I'll make sure I have an option at every position there.

Since I changed my active roster size to 26 in League Setup, I keep 26 on all four teams (Majors...A). I usually put my high blue star prospects in AA, which is where I also keep my best Minor League coach. In AAA, I keep veterans that might be under a major league contract and on the 40 man roster, that way if I need an emergency call up, I don't have to depend on a rookie or add salary to the team.

In the top level/majors, I obviously have 25. I try to keep it at 15-20 on my AAA team, giving everyone playing time for development. On AA, I'll keep anywhere from 20-25. On A, I really don't care, I'd keep up to 30. But I usually have up to 25.

intresting theories folks, thanks for the feedback

the reason why I ask is that in the idea that I have they'll roughly be 300 new players in the "drafting" class every year, so needless to say that will fill up a normal 6/10 team league real quick. barring a major influx of intrest, that's going to leave a lot fo players out in the cold
