Giants Prospect Questions
The one aspect of baseball I know the least amount is which prospects are actually good, and which aren't. For this, I bow to the superior knowledge of the board. What is the general consensus for the future of these two guys?
Todd Linden Eddy Martinez-Esteve Both are putting up impressive numbers in the minors, but I don't really know enough about them to tell if this is a fluke. I've looked up their past stats and Linden has been inconsistant while EME has raked, just curious what others think. |

I think Linden is pretty much just "a guy to have on the team". He could be a reserve and not be an embarrassment, but I don't think he will ever be above average.
EME hasn't been around long and is harder to peg for a specific role. I actually watched him play in San Jose this afternoon and he hit a double the other way to drive in a run. But the other pitcher had this slow breaker in his arsenal that wasn't too impressive, and EME looked perplexed whenever it came in. He either watched it for a strike, or looked terrible swinging at it. And his defense is atrcoious. I saw him play in the field at first in one game earlier this year. Yikes! He was the DH today. I think a guy with that many problems in the field for an NL team should not be DHing, he should be working on things in the field, but that's what he's doing. Far from a sure thing, but he could be something someday. |

I don't like the Giants prospects. I don't their prospects for the season one bit.

John Sickels likes EME, while Linden -- not so much. http://www.minorleagueball.com/story.../21/123954/700
I was going to write something short about how Linden is in his 4th year in PCL while EME has the defensive limitations of me, but jte already did it. Cain looks like, but his BB rate is a bit high this year.

Todd Linden will never be more than a 4th outfielder barring some sort of life-altering experience. It's unlikely his hot start will continue for too long. Still, he's been catching some eyes lately with his newfound increase in power and patience.
EME has a lot of potential from what I understand. He's putting up good numbers in SanJo, too. He could be in left field once Bonds retires. Niekro won't amount to much aside from a platoon player, even with his 5 jacks. Ellison's got a shot to remain starting player caliber. Let's see how long he can keep up his numbers. |
