Anyone playing with Skydog's suggestions?

Today is a nice relaxing day at home and I think I'm going to use the suggestions Ben (Skydog) has made for a modern MLB type fictional career.

I've always used real players and I like the idea of creating my own universe as well as using the MLB model.

Just curious to see if anyone is using his settings and what results are you seeing?

Thanks,

Todd

We are using his settings in the OTBA, you can check out the stats if you want. The only strange thing we have noticed is a low number of walks. Here's the site.

www.otbaonline.com

Edit: Here's the link to our catobase which is probably the easiest place for you to look at stats.

Thanks to the both of you. I plodded around for awhile and decided to start my own universe using his settings. The only thing I did was leave the stadium settings at default. My 10 years of history is almost done and from there, I'll check everything out to see how the results look.

I plan on taking a distressed team and building from there.. assuming there is a clear cut winner.

That is one unfortunate side effect from SkyDog's modifiers. Ratings tend to be higher, so salaries are also going to be higher.

I've been using his settings with some league setting modifiers (I found that there were too few home runs after about twenty years) and after 88 seasons I have seen no salary even close to that. Of course, I have team cash set at $20 million maximum.

Yep TonyJ is correct here. It's the cash maximum. Set the cash max to around $10 million if you want lower salaries.

I have it set to $20 million max, in fact everything is the same as what he has listed.

FWIW, I don't think it's a bad thing. I kind of like that this guy is Philly's one lone star, the next guy on their team is making a measly $10 mil per year.

Salary Cap

I ended up going with a $20 million cash max along with a $120 million salary cap. As you see, salaries haven't gone much over $30 million...and most "high" ones are in the low $20's.

Yes, that's why I wondered why I had a guy so high. I'm really liking the variety in the league with his settings.

I've started a dynasty with his settings, you can read it HERE.

The thing I like so far is the varriance of stats, salaries, and team management. I know these settings are mainly player and stat producing, but after 10 years, I see a nice variety of numbers across the board.. although I've just scratched the surface of this league.

Ultimately, the deal with salaries is this: because several different things in OOTP don't work quite right, and only so many settings can be user-adjusted, *something* is going to have to give. It is impossible to get players who are close to the right age with close to the right stats with close to the right salaries. Because the game can adjust markets to fit the talent of the players in the league, it made the most sense to me to focus on season-to-season stats and career stats (which come with proper aging), rather than worry about salaries. The salaries work well within the context of the universe that they're in--meaning there's a nice delta between solid starters and stars, etc.--but they're not going perfectly to mirror MLB salary structure--at least not this season's.

Weird. My salaries have been somewhat higher than MLB with several players over twenty million per, but nothing like that salary structure and, as I mentioned, I'm almost a century in to the thing. I wonder what accounts for the difference.

I use them and like the results. The salaries are a little higher but not outrageous for 2036

Great Write up

Really enjoyed the detail and the player spotlights. Chief Wahoo must be loving life with the success your Indians have been having!

Quick question..what program are you using to generate your player faces?
