Great Historic League Needs 2 dedicated GM's
I'm reposting this, as the Orioles have opened up, and I'm starting to think the Red Sox may still be open after all. If you have any interest in either the Red Sox or the Orioles, please contact me. The Red Sox info is here from the last thread, and I'll post the Orioles info directly after it.
The Golden Age of Baseball (GABL) has recently had the Boston Red Sox open. GABL is a league that uses OOTP5 to sim baseball history. The main difference between GABL and other historic leagues is that we import players in the year they were drafted in the amateur draft, rather than in the year they appeared in the majors, thereby making our amateurs need some development, rather than just appearing major league ready, lending to the realism of the league. We sim on a 7/8/7 schedule, 3 times a week, M/W/F. We started in 1977 and our in our 3rd season. The Red Sox have been one of the more dominant teams in league history, barely missing the playoffs in 77, finishing 2nd to the eventual champion New York Yankees, dominating 1978 and losing to the St. Louis Cardinals in the 78 World Series, and they are off to a 28-7 start in 1979, leading the AL East. They are led by such stars as Carlton Fisk, 2nd year sensation Wade Boggs, Rod Carew, Rick Burleson, Rookie of the Year Candidate Ken Oberkfell (currently batting .358 with 20 RBI's), Fred Lynn, Bernie Carbo and Dewey Evans. They have one of if not the best offense in GABL. Their pitching is led by 77 Cy Young winner Don Aase, John Tudor and Fergie Jenkins. They have the 5th best minor league system in the game, headlined by #2 prospect over all, AAA SP-Mike Smithson who is very nearly ready. They also have Bruce Hurst, Chuck Rainey and Chico Walker in the minors. They are fiscally sound, having 40+mil in cash and are scheduled to make another profit this year. If you have interest in joining one of the best Historics in OOTP, feel free to pop me an email at mandersen@gotucson.com or IM me at AndersenMat. The web address is http://goldenageofbaseball.com/gabl/index.php. Outside of our very first year at the start of the season, I've never had a team remain open for more than 1 day, so if you're interested, you need to hustle and get me an email. Thanks. The Baltimore Orioles are a team in need of an experienced, successful GM. We started in 1977, and their previous GM was very active in the off season free agent market. He signed numerous players to big contracts, and while most of those players still have very solid ratings, the moves did not pay off. Now, the Orioles are probably the worst team in GABL and have a 72 million dollar payroll and are on pace to lose around 11 mil this year which would leave them about 1.5 mil short after they exhaust their cash on hand. Still interested? Here's what they've got..........A decent farm system headlined by a young Don Mattingly who was the 2nd pick in the 78 Ammy Draft. Also in the system are such notables as AAA SP-Dave Dravecky who should be ready by next year, AAA C-Lance Parrish who also is close, SP-Bryn Smith at AA, 1B-Willis Upshaw at AA. They have a rookie playing C this year, John Wathan and he is performing admirably, so the O's have 2 good young C's. While ranking last in the league in nearly every category, they do have a very good young player to build around in 23 year old Eddie Murray, who is in his 3rd year in the majors. He hit 20+ HR's his first 2 years and looks to be a solid power source for the O's for years to come. They also have Garry Maddox, a free agent signee who is a solid bat. Their pitching, while worst in the league, has a ton of potential. In the 77 offseason they brought in Doyle Alexander, who had won 18 games for the Rangers in 77. They signed him to a 14 mil/year deal of which he has 3 years left. Since coming to Baltimore Alexander is 10-33. 28 year old Don Stanhouse came over from the Expos following the 77 season. He was 23-12 for Montreal in 77, he's been 7-24 since coming over. He's signed to a 13 mil deal for 2 more years. Both pitchers still have very solid ratings, but have not performed at all. Ken Forsch was brought in from California following 77 where he won 18 games. Baltimore put Forsch in the bullpen, where he saved 18 last year, but is off to a horrible start this year. He rates as a starter and may be better served in the rotation. 25 year old Scott McGregor is also in the pen, but rates as a starter and may help a struggling rotation. The Orioles have some decent talent and should be better than what they are. They are in desperate need of a good, creative GM. I will not penalize the new GM if he goes cash flow negative this year, however I would expect a new GM to put forth effort to right the ship financially this year if possible. There are a number of guys who have trade value. AIM me at AndersenMat or email me at mandersen@gotucson.com.

Just a friendly bump to say to the prospective new Orioles GM that the Reds would be willing to take on 1-12, 6+ ERA Doyle Alexander and his 14 million dollar contract in a package deal that could include 5-star SP prospect Mike Boddicker.
Take over the Orioles. You'll enjoy the league. |
