First Giants Game of the Year!

For his birthday, I took my dad to see the 4/21 game of the Dbacks at the Giants. What a game! Giants win 4-3 on a Deivi Cruz pinch hit base-loaded single in the bottom of the 13th inning. A great pitching matchup of Schmidt versus Ortiz.

I got great seats for the game: Section 108, Row 7. We could have spit on the Dbacks coming out of the dugout had we been so inclined. Great crowd. The weather couldn't have been more perfect for an evening game. It was quite possibly the most fun that I've had at ballgame since I was a kid.

We took the ferry from Larkspur (my folks live in Marin, I live in Sacramento) which was incredibly convenient. Aside from some VERY hyperactive kids on the boat ride over, it was very pleasant--much nicer than dealing with traffic after the ballgame.

My only complaint would be the cost of food. $6 for garlic fries and a minipizza and $3 for a Coke or hot chocolate is ridiculous. It was probably the same last year, but I could have sworn it was cheaper.

Anyway, this game had everything. A good outing from Schmidt (other than a mistake to Tracy that went for a 3 run jack, he was fantastic), a homer by a rookie (Niekro), a manufactured run by the Giants to tie it up, and of course a "walk-off" pinch hit. The Giants used their entire bullpen (a lefty starter, either Rueter or Lowry, was warming up when Cruz pinch hit for Walker) and I believe that the Dbacks used everyone except for Lyon. Michael Tucker even offered up some theatrics by getting himself ejected (I suspect he knew that he was going to be a victim of a double-switch anyway). Great, great game.

Anyway, I didn't get back home until after 2am PDT, but I just needed to share (I'm still too pumped up from the game to sleep much, anyway). I'll be dragging tomorrow, but it was well worth it.

If you don't have plans to do so yet, do yourself a favor: take your dad or son or friend or whomever to a ballgame soon. Its really a great time.

My best memory was attending the game at Camden Yards the night Cal Ripken tied Lou Gehrig's consecutive games played streak. There was an electric that night that you wouldn't believe.

I remember crawling into bed that night so ridiculously late that night, and being tired in school the whole next day. But you're absolutely right, it's worth it.

Wow! Now that's a bargain! I watched that game on MLB Extra Innings, which cost me $149 & didn't include any hot dogs.

The only downside to that evening, if you can call it that, was that Johan didn't notch his fourth win of the season that night. Twinkies won the game anyway in extra frames, with Joe Nathan looking as unhittable as ever.

I go to my first Nationals game one week from today against the Metropolitans.

In fact since I have nothing better to do I am going to go to all three games that weekend. The sunday night May 1st game is going to be on ESPN.
Maybe if I act like an asshat I will get on tv?
Perhaps a I heart Joe Morgan sign would do the trick....

No no, you need one of those clever ESPN acronym signs saying something like, Every Sport Played Near here. Feel free to ping Dagrims for something more clever as this is really his jurisdiction and not mine.

Actually they took the lead in the bottom of the 8th. Nathan struck out the side in the top of the 9th. As a baseball fan, I had to correct you.

Jonzard, you got that deal so cheap because you got the ticket for free. So that's misleading.

So how did you get 2 hot dogs for $2? Hot dogs sell for like $2.50-3 a piece at the dome. Which is also a ripoff. Unless there's discounts on those too on student night. If that's the case, I'm going every student.

Student Night
# $1 Hormel hot dogs (limit two per person, 20,000 total per game at concession stands only)
# $3 Cheap Seats ticket for students with ID

Yeah, I found it. It's not a bad deal but I rather sit in the lower level if I go to a Twins game.

I enjoy it, heckuva deal. Its a shame though, they used to do it with lower leftfield seats.

I'm going to the Twins/Indians game on May 3rd. We're gonna either be sitting along the first or third baseline about 24 rows up. Not the best seats in the world but they're only costing us $24 a piece, so nothing to complain about. It should be fun times.

Right, my mistake. The next night was an extra inning affair, the game Gassner started. Same result though; Twinkies take the lead, and game ends with Nathan blowing away the Royals. I think Nathan even struck out the side on like 13 pitches or so.

I have to call foul here. No talking about Joe Nathan in a Giants thread. That is a sensitive matter.
