Honestly, I'm not surprised the tickets went for that much.

What I want to know is how the Notre Dame endowment is only $3 billion. Notre Dame brags about having successful alumni who love the school, the athletics bring in a ton of money, yet Notre Dame's endowment isn't particularly impressive (relatively) compared to what one would think it would be.

Uhh...I'd consider $3 billion to be pretty impressive.

That's 17th in the nation, but it's about 14% of Harvard's, 1/3 of Stanford's, and a cool billion behind U Michigan and Wash U in St. Louis. It's also lower than U Chicago's, Rice's and A&M's. It is by no means a bad endowment, but Domers go above and beyond in bragging about their alumni network, generosity, and loyalty. You'd just think that such a large school that is supposedly so ridiculously successful would have a little bit more cash. Especially with how much their athletics bring in compared to a lot of the schools ahead of them (Wash U, Chicago U, MIT, Rice and the half-dozen richer Ivies in particular). The endowment here at Grinnell is nearly half of Notre Dame's--and we have a whopping 1500 students. Similar things can be said for Williams, Wellesley, and Pomona. I'm just not sure Notre Dame's pocketbook is keeping pace with their self-created alumni reputation. Last edited by sebastian0622; 10-04-2005 at 04:05 PM. |

Could've been worse: I could've spent my newfound riches on Orioles season tickets!
