Ugh...importing stealing ability for historical players
I dont even think anybody can answer this so this is probably more of a rant.
Why in the heck cant the game import players stealing and running ability properly?!?!?!? You'd think that something so obvious and basically important would be covered/fixed by now? I know that the game only looks at the 1st year for these ratings but that is totally useless in creating rookies. Im starting from 1977 with my database and Rickey Henderson in Oakland's minors is maxed on speed but has low ratings in either of those. And when I import rookies the following year it still shows nothing. |

I believe the major cause of this is the issues with the Lahman database and perhaps baseball itself not tracking caught stealing in early years. Baseball reference for example has no caught stealing data for the NL prior to 1950.

I dont think that should even be that much of an issue. Just because there is no stat for those players, that doesnt mean that the game shouldn't approximate it. We're talking well after 1950, which most every historical simmer uses due to the inate problems playing in earlier eras. If your going to have the rating mean something then you should do everything you can to make it justifyable <sic>.

It would be way cool if Markus used Bill James Speed Score to set historic players speed ratings on import.
I've never understood why OOTP can set a historic player's offensive talents based on his entire career, and uses only his first year record to set defensive ratings. Makes for a less than stellar import.
