Question Just some quick questions

Hey all,

I've been looking for a good baseball simulator for the past little bit, and this OOTP looks to be a sure bet. I've played APBA's Broadcast Blast for a few years, but they make you pay $25.00 a season, and that just doesn't appeal to me, especially since their interface is a bit dated. So I just had a few quick questions or you all. My questions manly concern single play, as opposed to online league play

-Does the default download of OOTP6 come with real-life players, or do they need to be downloaded from a 3rd party?

-With OOTP7 coming out this fall, would I be better off to wait till then and just buy a console baseball game now to tide me over?

I apologize if these question have been answered before in this forum. I did a search, though, and couldn't find anything, so I figured I'd ask. Thanks!

- No, game does not come w/ real players but many sources found on this board can lead you to them.
- Your choice. Try a search or look back a few pages as this Q is asked 3 or 4 times a week.

It comes with fictional (or rather, fictionalized) players. I say fictionalized because, gee, wouldn't you know it? Colorado has this really good first baseman who's signed long-term at a staggeringly high cost and, golly, his stats are just like Todd Helton's! And my word, that elderly but unbelievably productive slugger in left field for San Francisco certainly reminds me of someone. It's on the tip of my tongue...

You get the idea. Real stats, fake names. However, you do need to download a third-party roster; sadly, though, I couldn't tell you which 2005 roster is the best. If you wanted to start with '04 rosters, that'd be another matter.

I'd say buy OOTP 6. It's dirt-cheap and has a ton of life in it-- I bought it when it first came out and will be playing it at least until OOTP7 arrives, and maybe longer. OOTP7, as the first version written with the all-new code base, interface, etc. will doubtless have a ton of problems to smooth out-- especially given its very ambitious scope. Worst come to worst, then, you'll have OOTP6 to fall back on if OOTP7 fails to hold your interest. If OOTP7 blows you away, great. You'll have gotten six, seven months of baseball excellence for a low, low price.

They have indeed been asked and answered before, but hey, no worries.

The current price of $19.99 for OOTP6 makes it easy to say go and get it for the six months (at least) of pure baseball enjoyment you'll get.

Good job, you did it exactly the right way. There's also a FAQ Forum available, too.

The game is well worth the money, and some of the add-ons are great. Enjoy.

Just wanted to let you all know that I did pick it up and have already imported real-life players using halofan's rosters (Thanks for those!) and a 2005 schedule. Time to get playing.

Might want to try Ankit's Database too. This is a great one.
