Generating League History
Goal: To sim about 50 seasons (1901-1950) for a 12-team league with fictional players to establish a league history and almanac. The goal is to mirror some of the same eras of MLB.
I tried doing this, but had problems with the Cy Young winner each year having ERAs of 3.96 and the like...the league was very offense dominated. (On a side note, the career HR leader has 756 and the next guy has 714...eerily similar to Aaron/Ruth) I adjusted some of the pitcher creation modifiers, and that was just a band-aid. I recalculated league totals yearly and that didn't help either. I had the eras set to the corresponding years as I simulated through about 50 seasons. So how do you all go about doing this? Should I try using the "recalculate for historical accuracy" button every year instead of the "recalculate totals" button? Should I do anything with the creation and development modifiers? Thanks in advance. |

You could always use Sky Dog's recommendations, which will give you stable, reasonable numbers for the long haul.
To be sure, those recommendations won't allow you to mirror the deadball era and the liveball era of the 30s, but the only way to do that (in my experience) is to fiddle with the league totals every few years using some spreadsheet era calculator or other. I have my own but I think there's one floating around in the mods somewhere. Hope this helps. PM me if you want a copy of my era calculator. |
