Corrupted Player.dat file??

I have been having issues with my game for the past couple days that someone in a league of mine said was a corrupted player.dat file.

He isn't on now, so I was hoping for an explanation from the masses.

Here's the deal:
  • My game froze about 2 days ago. I had to cold boot my pc to even shut it down, and when I tried to start it up again after rebooting, I received a Run Time error message.
  • After trying to fix it, I decided to just abandon that league, uninstall and then reinstall the game
  • It worked. I was able to start the game with a fresh install, but there was still one issue.....
  • I can quit and restart the game when I'm in the original Career 2004 league
  • ......but anytime I try to create a historical league or close an online league I've downloaded, it causes problems. The league is created and I can initially play it, but if I quit the game during any other league other than the default, I can't reopen the game later on.
  • I have to reboot, uninstall, reinstall again and use the default league.
So, I was told that it's a player.dat file issue. But would this happen everytime I reinstall it?? Wouldn't a reinstall create an entirely new player.dat file. I create a new league every time. that tells me it's something other than the player.dat file.

HELP!

By the way....

Windows ME
7.2 Gb free
Cable modem
Most recent DirectX (I think)

Really don't know for sure but from personal experience it is possible that it is your OS, ME is TERRIBLE. Combine the OS w/ the problem you describe it wouldn't surprise me. If a fresh reinstall didn't help not sure what to tell you.

This may be a reallllllly dumb question, but how much does a new OS cost? Is it even worth it, or should I just save up for a new computer?

i remember seeing somewhere that XP Pro is aorund 300$ Canadian. Your milage may vary, and Pro may be overkill for you. I think XP Home is 25% less.

I recently bought XP home for about $200 Canadian, but I've heard places where you can get it for even cheaper than that.

Probably a new computer would be in your best interests. The upgrades that XP does in their OS, is probably more than your system now will be able to handle.

I would definitely get a new system and then try OOTP on it , you will notice a huge difference.

I'm an idiot when it comes to computers, but one thing you might check. After uninstalling, check your hard drive for any OOTP files\folders and delete any that might not have been removed before reinstalling.
