Post TotalMinors Or All-Time Rosters?

Hey guys,

Been doing a lot of thinking about the roster development issue and I want to ask you guys here what you want me to do.
I've said that I plan to update my TotalMinors roster set for High Heat this year, and was considering altering it for OOTP as well. This would take some work, but it's doable. (For those who don't know details about TotalMinors, it's a full minor league (100+ player/team) roster set I developed for High Heat last year...details are in several other threads here).
However, I also have thought about two things:
1) Rolen and I are essentially doing the same thing. He had access to the roster file beforehand and is thus well ahead of me as it pertains to roster development (hence he already has a set out). How many people would restart seasons when my set comes out, probably sometime in April? If you're already into your season, are you going to test my work. Frankly, my methods in deriving ratings take a lot of time, and if people wouldn't really use it because something else was already out, it doesn't make much sense for me to worry about. So I'm curious about this.
High Heat guys can vouch for the quality of my set, but if people aren't going to want to stop what they're doing, it's kind of pointless.
2) I have been pondering the development of an all-time roster set, including the best players from each team. This wouldn't be a 25 or 40 man roster, but between 75-100 guys per team. I have always contemplated doing this and wonder if now is the time.
Each player that had 1500 plate appearances or either started 50 games or pitched in 150 for a franchise would be included. Guys from older teams would start the set as older guys near the end of their career, while current guys would be younger. I would also include each team's top 5-10 prospects. I'm still developing this concept, but I have the basic idea and it is very possible. I've thought about doing a set like this for ages, and it would be a great challenge but I think people would love it.
However, I want to do what the people here want to see. If you want me to proceed and carry out the TotalMinors set, I will gladly do so. If you would rather see the All-time set, that's what I'll do. This is a great and loyal board and I'm getting more and more into it by the day. So let me know what you want to see and any questions you may have.

Take care,

GH

as long as i'm still testing the game, i have not started a league per se. therefore, i would be interested in the TotalMinors set.

Many moons ago, when I played HH, I used the GForce Totatl Minors set and it ruled. I'm currently using Rolen's set for OOTP, and I used his set last year as well. If you went on with the Total Minors, I'd download it and try it out, compare the two sets, and the decide which one to use primarily.

The alltime teams are intriguing though. The idea of The Big Red Machine + the all time greats makes me drool.

I just think that with the all-time rosters you'd run into a few problems... I think that players age, salary, and having 150 players per team would cause all kinds of problems... However if you could overocme these problems it would probably be an awesome set. Of coures the total minors set would also be awesome so i guess it comes down to what you really want to do...

I'd like to see the TotalMinors set done, for the simple fact that in my online league I import a lot of real-life minor leaguers every year and this would be a great help in doing that...

Your rosters for High Heat were great. Any work you do will be appreciated!

I hope that you and Rolen combine to make the Ultimate Roster. Full Minors and Majors of Real players and their contracts and their real skills. That would be unbelievable.

Hey, it could happen..

Thanks for the feedback. A couple of things:

1) Because of my detail (and time constraints), I won't have the TotalMinors set done until sometime in April. If that's cool with everyone else, then great. I just wanted everyone to know that before they decided and so nobody held off their season indefinitely if they planned on using my set.

2) 150 per team? Yikes...I'm detailed, but I'm not THAT crazy The All-time rosters would have 75-100 guys a team. My plan for age is basically five year increments based on birthday (1900-1904=38 years old, 1905-1909=37, etc....that way guys from the last 20 years are in the game longer, more guys we know/watched are in the game longer, but the old-timers are still there for a while.)

Just wanted to clarify those things...still looks like TotalMinors is the plan though, but keep the feedback coming.

Thanks for your interest.

Rolen and I may still combine on rosters. But I admit that because of the time I put into to developing my spreadsheets for rating guys, I'm pretty stuck on my rating system. And I'm sure Rolen feels similarly about rating his guys. We've talked and we get along great, it's not a competition thing. I just wonder what happens if we find our ratings getting consistently different.
Trust me, us working together is still a definite possibility (at least as of last time we spoke).

I'd still like to see a roster set with complete minors. now, whether that's Rolan's, or Total Minors, or whatever, it doesn't matter to me. I trust y'all as far as your ratings systems.

Now, as far as an all time roster, that sounds great. Wasn't there a Cooperstown roster set? Or was that HH2K2? Anyway, personally, I wouldn't sim a career league for all time rosters. I'd use it for a single season league, and replay that a few times. I probably would want the players in their prime...not aged. Know what I mean?

1)
Given the amount of time you put in to the ratings, they would likely be more acurate (no offtense to rolen, his are pretty close in most cases), so I would at least try them out. My guess is that I'd like both sets, with yours having a slight edge, and I'd end up starting a 2002 career with yours, especially if you did the monthly updates. I am not in a great hurry to start a 2002 career league since I just finished the 2001 career league in ootp3, so I will likely wait until your set is out before I decide.

Ideally though, you and rolen would combine your efforts and produce one very good and very comprehensive set.

2) not sure what you mean. as you talking about an all century team of some kind?

To be honest, once Rolen's opening day set comes out I will probably use those just because they would be out first but if you 2 work together then all the better.

I am still not adverse to the idea. I think that we could make a great set. GForce and I have a lot of similar ideas so I think that working together would probably be best as we both have limited time issues.

Cool

I would love to see an all-time roster set. I think with regards to salary, that definitly could be overcome.

With regards to a new set of rosters for current. I would like to compare the different sets and maybe use that as a guide for you and Rolen to combine with. This would allow you two to use the best of what each of you has.

Jason Wick did a Cooperstown set for High Heat. Mine would simply include more guys. Basically, each team's best ever roster. You have to do an age adjustment of some sort if you're going to do a roster like that, otherwise half the guys will never play (if everyone is 20, the same 25 guys will pretty much stay on the ML level and the other guys will never see the light of day).

I am all for Total Minors. One, I don't plan on replaying any past seasons. Two?

Dude, your sets rule.

I would gladly wait until April. I do really enjoy Rolens current set, but last year, you had me saying more than once - I can't even beleive he included THAT guy! Awesome!"

You're meticulous and thorough...and I appreciate it....
